No sense presenting my thoughts on the later levels early and spoiling everyone else's fun (and it's been long enough since I played the earlier levels that I don't remember my reactions in detail). 0 Share this post Link to post

But you can present your thoughts about the early levels that you've played a while ago. Didn't read the last sentence of your post, sorry. :) 0 Share this post Link to post

Doominator2 Posted February 4, 2015 Currently playing 2002: A Doom Odyssey, great WAD especially for me since I love Ultimate Doom Megawads, its always nice when they come around. 0 Share this post Link to post

dobu gabu maru Posted February 17, 2015 Inbetween all my daily Doom chores, I found time to slip in Episodes 1 & 2 of ConCERNed a couple weeks ago. Thoughts below. E1: So far, some nice work here. Doom 1’s greatest strength is that the difficulty lies directly in the layout & munitions given (as Doom 2’s bestiary can be quite monstrous no matter how they’re placed). I’ve always lauded cannonball on his map spacing, as he consistently gives the player a decent amount of room to run by yet doles out his hitscanners such that you can’t just run around aimlessly. The combo works like a charm here, and I rarely found myself shrugging off battles or bored traversing the complexes. Granted, there’s a couple maps/encounters that do play a weakly, and some of the baron use can slow down the pace here and there, but these are issues I find with any Ultimate Doom map in general. There were also a couple of points where I felt that cb expects the player to basically take no damage due to the fickle munitions, which just wasn’t happening for me. Favorite maps were E1M4 and E1M6. I especially liked how cyb-heavy it got at the end, as I’m one that’s all for boss monsters scattered throughout the Ultimate Doom episodes. E2: Really great! I found that there was a ton more variety here, thanks in part to the freedom given to the player to explore as they please. Plus I’m always a sucker for areas where it looks like hell is slowly creeping in and corrupting the place. However I have to reiterate my distaste for the use of barons in pretty high quantity (even more than E1), which can make gameplay suuuuuper slow (I'm suspecting they're used as speedbumps for speedrunners). It felt like the level design was more flexible than E1, and it was cool seeing each map's theme; for instance I didn’t find the secret level to be fun, but I’d be damned if it didn’t approve of its darkness-soaked atmosphere. My favorite was E2M6 for its partially damaging floor, nasty pistol start, and hectic final battle. E2M7 was a great penultimate map as well, but something about E2M6’s dank, bloody cellars really appealed to me. I'm hoping to get to E3 and Draft Excluder sometime soon, as I'm interested in seeing how cb continues to develop his mapping style. 0 Share this post Link to post

dobu gabu maru Posted February 17, 2015 ^ I still have E3 & E4 to go so I might vote for it, but competition might be tough between 32-in-24, 50 Shades & Valiant 0 Share this post Link to post
Rubilacxe Posted February 19, 2015 I recently played Back to Saturn X, which was spectacular! Props to everyone involved in that project. I'm looking forward to the final release of Episode 2. 0 Share this post Link to post
Degree23 Posted March 6, 2015 That's also what I'm playing through at the moment too, continuously on UV. Map 6 really confused me at parts with the dead monsters and me thinking "I'm pretty sure I haven't killed those yet". Needless to say I had to kill them when the Arch Viles resurrected them! Map 7 was just all kinds of awesome too. Music is great as well. 0 Share this post Link to post
RNGPSY Posted March 6, 2015 CC4 and some shitty oblige mappack with RGA2 on montreal servers on zandronum, and my map 0 Share this post Link to post
Breezeep Posted March 6, 2015 Just played through the last few maps of the first episode of Concerned. Pretty fun episode overall. 0 Share this post Link to post
drifter20k Posted March 11, 2015 I started playing Double Impact the e1 replacement for Ultimate Doom last night. I'm listening to Final Doom ost right now at work and now I feel like playing TNT:Evilution again. I just have to suffer through a day at this miserable fucking job just so I can rush home and play it.... 0 Share this post Link to post
SFoZ911 Posted March 12, 2015 Playing Harmony by Thomas van der Velden(t.v.). Probably the best total conversion for doom I have ever play. I wish he was still around and made more things for us because I like his mapping style and overall architecture. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nevanos Posted March 12, 2015 Doing some replays of Community Chest 4, Valiant, SlaughterFest 2012 (finally, miss this thing), and recently just started playing Doomworld Mega Project 2014 before going to bed yesterday. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sandstormer Posted March 12, 2015 I finished Doom 2 Reloaded with the Doom4ever mod a few weeks ago and haven't really did much playing since then. I started playing Rebirth with the Doomsday Engine and sprites, but it's only every now and then when I'm not working on my project. I actually have a large backlog of megawads that I want to finish. 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted March 12, 2015 I gave up playing Resurgence during MAP11 from the extreme monster count BFG spam gameplay during DWMegawad Club a few months back. I decided to give it a go again last night and pick up where I left off. I keep dying on the Blue Key part, which is the part that obviously has the most pressure. I did manage to beat it once, then moved on to the remaining keys which, while easier, still takes at least an additional 10 minutes each to complete. Then I finally teleported to the center hub and was unexpectedly greeted with a bunch of archviles, was blown up repeatedly, keeping my feet off the floor and away from hiding spots and eventually killing me swiftly. Had to rage quit after that. Adding that 1,795 monsters to my current body count is so enticing though! (I use a batch file that saves the my kill totals in a text file in prBoom. I have about 28,000+ kills documented so far. The catch is that I have to beat it from a pistol start.) I also wanna give myself a chance to fairly see the rest of the wad, because I'm sure it's great :) 0 Share this post Link to post
NuMetalManiak Posted March 12, 2015 get this for a story: so I decided to replay Hellbound, after enjoying most of it in my last playthrough. I decided to play the maps on an ITYTD pistol start for a change. got all the way to MAP29, the really long linear slog of a map. I made it past the northern part of the map where the BFG is, now I'm on the left-hand part of the map. there was this one big teleporter ambush in front of me with a ton of monsters including a cyberdemon. I had been saving my game before each ambush because I knew what was coming. in the heat of that particular ambush I had saved behind a pillar, and GZDoom all of sudden just stalled. I was quite unsure how the hell it happened, maybe it was because I looked towards the center of the map, but it would not respond at all (the music played though) and I had to end it via task manager. I also got my gamma settings for my monitor all screwed up somehow. after fixing the gamma and COMPLETELY resetting my GZDoom settings and redoing them to my previous preference, I fire up Hellbound in an attempt to redo MAP29 from that one point it crashed and found out to my horror that the savegame fucking disappeared. not in my Recycle Bin, nor among my other saves, it was fucking gone. 0 Share this post Link to post
Salt-Man Z Posted March 25, 2015 Currently playing Obituary (HMP) with GLBoom+. I had thought I'd got it working in GZDoom (I could see the new monsters just fine) but the game was practically impossible. Well, it appears the dechacked patch wasn't loading properly in GZDoom, so all the super-imps were just reskinned hell knights, etc. No wonder! Anyway, now I'm playing it in GLBoom+ (still on HMP) and I've finished the first 3 maps, and it's pretty cool. Obviously a descendant of TEU and SUD, which were a lot of fun. Also, over the weekend, I finished off Memento Mori (I) on UV. A fun set of maps that more or less still hold up today. Some of the stuff that's geared toward multiplayer is a little annoying, but for the most part didn't impede single player play. Some favorites were MAP13, 21, and 28. Also also, I should mention I played through Innocence: The New Technology on UV, and had a blast. Dunno what it is, they never seem to get a lot of attention on these forums, but I just can't get enough of the Innocence series. 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted March 25, 2015 I'm playing through Hellbound. I really didn't like it at first when I played it shortly after it first cane out. The first couple levels were a little loaded with hitscan hell monsters, but I've given it another chance and I'm up to MAP10 now, which is much more supershotgun friendly. I'm averaging about 15 minutes per map. I don't usually like to play such long maps but they are consistently good looking and fun to play, and I'm adapting to Z86s mapping style pretty well :) I think it'll keep me busy for a while. 0 Share this post Link to post
driftyloon Posted March 25, 2015 I am currently playing Doom 2 in name only,CC4,Doom 2 reloaded, whispers of satan and doom 2 the way id did it. So a lot going at the moment but I will get through it all then hopefully find another megawad. 0 Share this post Link to post
yakfak Posted March 25, 2015 shovelware ahoy! Best things on the disc so far are probably INVADE1.WAD and a bunch of maps featured in HEROES.WAD, which are on probably every disc ever, but I'm persevering :))) 0 Share this post Link to post
mouldy Posted March 25, 2015 Recently played Hell Ground, amazing piece of work that, really summons up a surreal and unsettling atmosphere. Also had another run though Knee-deep in Zdoom, still seems like an impressive technical achievement. Not sure I like the look of some of the monsters, and some maps are a bit too convoluted for their own good, but still a great wad. 0 Share this post Link to post

The only two maps I remember playing on it are Zeus and YakWorld but I never played the whole thing. Playing Swift Death right now, at MAP23 on UV. not sure what thing from my request queue I'm gonna play after, there are like a billion now 0 Share this post Link to post

EffinghamHuffnagel Posted March 27, 2015 Capellan said:Just finished ConCERNed and Thy Flesh Turned Into a Draft Excluder for the DWMC. That's so funny. I just finished re-naming the E4 songs to their appropriate map names and creating a MAPINFO so I can combine both of these into one wad to play through. I already combined DEHACKEDs, so all I have left is to add DBRAIN 1-4 from draftex.wad to the concern.wad TEXTURE and PNAMES and it should play seamlessly. I guess I'll save my work in a separate zip and call it "Seriously ConCERNed". 0 Share this post Link to post

IMO, Z1M3 and Z1M8 were both complete failures in regards of re-portraiting the originals (and annoying to play for multiple reasons), but I still liked the wad a lot when I've played it a few years back. I also liked all of the monsters except the bosses. 0 Share this post Link to post
