IE 1.0 to IE 9.0, see how they have progressed.

Look what he's entering in the IE 9 search bar...

This guy covertly slips profanity into his recordings. In his Windows version upgrade montage, he licensed his various copies of Windows to "twatface" and licensed several of these IE versions to "shitballs".

Plus, that's not one of his computers that he's searching for horse porn on. It's his reluctant flatmate's. :P

I'm actually very impressed with IE9. You can tell a lot of work was put into it. the 2D canvas is quite fast and allows for some high-resolution rotation, scaling, filtering and all that cool stuff.

Javascript engine on it's not to shabby, either.

Pinned sites are pretty cool too. I use them at work to pretend that some IE-only internal sites (like Sharepoint) are "programs."

Yeah IE9 is perhaps the first time that IE can be considered to be a very modern browser, despite what Mozilla would have you believe. It's not perfect by any means, and there are still definitely better browsers out there, but at least IE isn't in the position of holding the web back anymore.

Also watching this video it's clear to me that pretty much every version of IE flat out sucked prior to 8.

Really? It was the awful ie8 that finally convinced this long-term ie user that Firefox was the way to go.

IE9 blew my balls off, figuratively speaking. I only use IE at work for testing, and it's much, much, much, MUCH faster than IE8 was. Especially the much improved developer tools get praise from me.

Coincidentally, I'm installing IE6 on my laptop so I can update Win2k. I'm having a hard time deciding what OS belongs on this laptop.

Heh, I'm keeping around a WSUS Offline Update 6.64 (still supported Windows 2000) disc that I made a few months ago for the purpose of Windows 2000. Since Microsoft discontinued all support in June, it has every official update there ever will be (though I'm sure some nuts (people at MSFN =p) are hacking newer binaries to run on it and all). And if you ever use IE on Windows 2000, it's somewhat amusing to see the Microsoft pages offering you to upgrade to IE8/9, which won't run on Windows 2000 anyway.

One thing about the Desktop Update for Windows 95 (and became the standard for Windows 98 and beyond), Windows Explorer had some obvious benefits over the previous one, but bundling it with Internet Explorer was a huge mistake. Microsoft tried to hide that it was attached to IE in Windows XP and I believe as of Vista they actually (re-)separated the two programs like it should have been all along. The stability of Internet Explorer for your desktop shell, not a fun thing.

Maybe both IE and Windows being Microsoft products has something to do with it. But it's just a hunch.

I downloaded IE9, flash videos and youtube videos stopped working. I enabled java scripting so it did work, and it went back to IE8.

huh, I guess i am destined to not use IE9.

I know right? Although in that video they said one version of MSIE was released everywhere. The funny thing is they all use the same functions in the programming language to view a web page, but they all have different GUIs. That's what I never understood.

Nope, tried that. No matter how much I tried to cut it down, XP just demands too much horsepower. Unlike Maes, I have a much broader definition of "usable" than "anything that is technically capable of EVENTUALLY getting to the desktop and running a program without catastrophic failure".

Win2k is sufficiently lightweight enough to run an old-fashioned mobile workstation. Although... WinME might be a better choice for running games.

lolwut, saying that a program sucks just because it's not available on every platform is ridiculous and absurd.

I still have 5.5 for Mac. No srsly.

And I'm waiting for an XP compatibility hack to come out just so I can piss off the occasional XP hater.

It should be obvious to anyone who's ever used it before that IE sucks because it is IE
