Looks like DOOM RTS: Battle for Mars. No longer in production, though, but the source code and/or resources are available.

If you want, I can give you some of the music I made for Battle for Mars if it wasn't included. That is, if I can find it.

Doom: Tower Defense sounds like something that might work also...

But I wonder if anyone has tried to make a turn-based strategy style game like Warlords, Nectaris (aka Battle Isle), etc.

This looks pretty cool. I'll DL whats available.

EDIT: Eh, it crashes... er... Stops working after I hit 'Start Game' after going through game options. You said Skirmish mode is all that is available, but, what exactly is that? I'm running on Vista, and I'm not sure what you mean by Windows 98 compatibility mode.

Clonehunter, right-click the game icon and click Properties.
Then click the Compatibility tab and select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box. Then select Windows 98 in drop down menu.
And did you set the bigger screen resolution in game than 800x600? If you did, you should reinstall the game, because of current version doesn't support resolutions bigger than 800x600

When you get around to making the actual graphics you could maybe use the various MD2's, and take screenshots of them at an RTS'ey angle then "trace" them to get sprites.

Also some of the structures could be derived from the buildings in the episode ending maps from Doom.

Okay, I played about 45 minutes and I have to say: it's very addictive! Definitely interesting and although you have to fix some things, it's a great game!

Hey, you know what would be cool? Factions for Serpent Riders and The Order! Be a bit more complete I would think. ALso, better in free for alls so you have more diverse things to shoot at. Its impossible to tell Blue Imp Pack from Red Imp Pack, ecept for the map, which still makes it difficult, because when you see a pack f Imps, are the Imp allies or not? You'd be wasting time trying to kill them. Plus those beforementioned faction would just be cool.
