belphegore Posted May 15, 2011 I'm looking for the four or five Cobra Episodes (each 30 Levels) for Doom2 and can't find them anywhere... The only infomation source I can found is the Doomwadstation: http://www.doomwadstation.com/dlw/Doom2_3.html They are also on no FTP Server with Doom Stuff that I know. Were these Epsiodes a commercial release? 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted May 15, 2011 They were compilation wads, made up of other people's wads (mostly single levels) thrown together into megawads. This wasn't always done with permission (and unauthorized changes may have been made to the maps), so these wads aren't entirely legitimate, and that is probably why they are mostly missing from the archive. As far as I know, they were made freely available, rather than the compilers charging money for them. I could be wrong on that though. They certainly weren't a commercial product resulting from any permission being granted by id. One of the Cobra wads can be found here (stolen, and without any credits for the compilers or the original mappers - it shouldn't really be in the archive). Map01 is a version of Tiger Den, and I'm sure wad historians will be able to identify many of the others. Edit: A few links: http://cd.textfiles.com/sprintos5/WADS/DOOMAC/COBRA1.ZIP http://cd.textfiles.com/sprintos5/WADS/DOOMAC/COBRA2.ZIP http://cd.textfiles.com/sprintos5/WADS/DOOMAC/COBRA3.ZIP 1 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted May 16, 2011 I've uploaded a couple of the later ones that contained at least some rudimentary documentation: http://www.4shared.com/file/2L4yMD6q/cobra2.html http://www.4shared.com/file/Ykt0mur6/cobra23.html These are the 2nd and 3rd Cobra wads for Doom2. I got them from some site (maybe ftp://ftp.mayn.de/pub/really_old_stuff/incubus/) that apparently had got them from here: http://ftp.mayn.de/pub/incubus/UDBase/game/indiz/doom 0 Share this post Link to post
belphegore Posted May 16, 2011 Great. Thank you very much, Grazza! Keep a short look into one wad and yes there are some levels that I already know, but that doesn't matter. BTW The FTP Server is down. 0 Share this post Link to post

Cobra Computer published 3 CDs that I know of - a utilities disk (which I have) and a 2-disk collection of wads (that I'm after). 4shared isn't playing nice with me so I'll just barge in with a download of my own - Episodes 1 to 3 of Cobra Doom for Registered Doom. Found them on a shovelware CD as self-extracting .lha archives, which I assume is how they were originally distributed. Each contains a set of text files for the maps that make up the compilation. 0 Share this post Link to post

belphegore Posted May 17, 2011 Thanks, GreyGhost! @hex11 Use the Cobra1.wad from GreyGhost that will work. 0 Share this post Link to post

Mad Butcher Posted May 20, 2011 Does anyone have these original WADs from the Cobra episodes? SUPRSHOT.WAD by Holger Vocke (MAP01- Cobra2_1) MEGADOOM.WAD by Mr. Mouse (MAP22 - Cobra2_2) The text files for both WADs are available at DWS. http://doomwadstation.com/dlw/zip/converted/cobra2_1.zip http://doomwadstation.com/dlw/zip/doom2/Cobra2_2.zip 0 Share this post Link to post
belphegore Posted May 20, 2011 ??? These Wads are also in the ZIP Archives you linked... With a Doom Editor like DoomBuilder you can extract them, if you need them seperately. BTW Thanks for the link of the Cobra2_1.wad 0 Share this post Link to post
Mad Butcher Posted May 20, 2011 The maps in the Cobra episodes were converted to Doom 2. I'm looking for the original, separate WADs that are for Doom 1. Here is Cobra2_4. 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted May 20, 2011 Mad Butcher said:Here is Cobra2_4. Bear in mind that the wads at dlw have in most cases been altered, often introducing problems large or small, or just changing things for little reason. However, the files there can be useful by providing text-files that weren't included with the original packages. 0 Share this post Link to post
LogicDeLuxe Posted May 21, 2011 This CD contains cobra2_1.wad to cobra2_4.wad: http://www.player1.de/tausch/pc/PC_DoomUtilities.jpg Picture found here: http://www.player1.de/tausch/pc/ Original text files are included, but some of them clearly state: no modification. I still have this shovelware item. Do we really need those fishy wads? It's not like all the original authors wanted their wads spread like this, after all. 0 Share this post Link to post

[/B] Always getting an error message by starting with ZDoom or Skulltag: Text Chunk is missing size of new string Maybe Jean-Yves Delpech aka "Jive" aka "The Freeman, done a bit too much in 2009 on this ;) Anyway, thanks for the link! 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted May 21, 2011 The DEHACKED lump (which only changes level names) might be at fault, see if removing it fixes the problem. Mad Butcher said:MEGADOOM.WAD by Mr. Mouse It's on one of my shovelware disks, I'll dig it out and post a link tomorrow. 0 Share this post Link to post
betabox Posted May 22, 2011 I recall Cobra released a compilation called Cobra Power Pack with like 4000 levels or something for Doom 2. I had the CD back in the day, when I wasn't as interested in Dooming as I am now (tried fifty or so levels). Is it rare? Well, probably, and I do feel bad for accidentally shattering the damn disc. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mad Butcher Posted May 22, 2011 GreyGhost said:Found it - Megadoom.zip Many thanks! I really appreciate it. belphegore: I usually avoid anything that was modified by Jive, but in this case I didn't think it mattered much since the maps were already converted to Doom 2 by Cobra Computing Ltd. As Grazza said, at least they are useful for the included text files. There is a "Cobra2_5" (3-level beta) by XonToR that I found in my collection of Doom stuff. It only runs with Legacy (GZDoom won't work at all). 0 Share this post Link to post
