Lee Griggs Posted June 1, 2011 Hi guys, I thought you might be interested in my homage to the classic game that is Doom, which I still play on my DS. http://features.cgsociety.org/newgallerycrits/g13/38913/38913_1306076156_large.jpg This is the original screenshot which I based it on: http://imageshack.us/f/834/doomscreenshot.jpg/ Thanks to Ian Albert for his excellent oblique projection map which helped me plan out the model - http://ian-albert.com/games/doom_maps/ http://ian-albert.com/games/doom_maps/E1M5.jpg High res render - inhttp://img825.imageshack.us/img825/9704/doomhighres.jpg Cheers, Lee 0 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted June 1, 2011 This is fantastic. I love this kind of work. I looked at some of your other stuff, it reminds me of this guy (I mean that as a compliment of course). 0 Share this post Link to post
Coopersville Posted June 2, 2011 It's 1999: Imagine if Doom was modded to look like this? 0 Share this post Link to post
Blastfrog Posted June 5, 2011 Dude, somebody needs to make an entire remake of Doom like this in a modern engine! Nice work, I must say. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Bank Posted June 5, 2011 Neato, I like that you maintain the stylized and unrealistic "video-game" quality of it while still idealizing. 0 Share this post Link to post
DoomUK Posted June 6, 2011 Lee Griggs said:http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/9704/doomhighres.jpg That's just jaw-droppingly sick. More, plz. 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted June 17, 2011 Yes we need more. makes me hope that the next Doom game looks closer to the original game. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mithran Denizen Posted June 17, 2011 I especially like how you took the original ugly vertical tiling of DOORSTOP in the window frame and made it look respectable, while keeping the tone distribution the same. 0 Share this post Link to post
Shapeless Posted June 18, 2011 we need more but with some monsters in there to. 0 Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted June 19, 2011 Excuse me for a second, my jaw just dropped to the floor. This is the best high-res recreation of Doom ever. Fucking awesome. 0 Share this post Link to post

esselfortium Posted June 27, 2011 The lighting and the nukage surface look great, but to be honest I think the wall textures look horrible. The shape, shading, and wear on the STARTAN is completely off, and the BROWN1 is far too shiny and high-contrast for grungy concrete. (Also, if this is intended just as a still shot, it's probably not a good thing that the ceiling texture tiles as obviously as it does.) What was this made in? 0 Share this post Link to post
doomgirl Posted June 28, 2011 This is fucking amazing. So many old games need to be remade like this. Love that chaingun. 0 Share this post Link to post
Pirx Posted June 30, 2011 wow, man. amazing. ian albert's maps are also nice. 0 Share this post Link to post
rgerber Posted November 3, 2011 Is this Chaingun an actual model? Would you be willing to share this model for another HDR pack in the making? The shading and style look like a perfect upscale of the original. Best Chaingun I've seen 0 Share this post Link to post

Sharessa Posted November 22, 2011 Okay, this is pretty awesome. It looks like someone remade Doom on the Oblivion engine. Or possibly the Skyrim one. 0 Share this post Link to post
NiTROACTiVE Posted February 22, 2012 Wow this is awesome! Is it something we could actually play? If so, then I would like to try it! 0 Share this post Link to post
MRB_Doom Posted March 6, 2012 That looks fantastic. Please, continue creating fan art! 0 Share this post Link to post
Hellbent Posted May 24, 2012 I would just like to reiterate all the posts in here (less Essel's of course). If we could get a doom remake with this kind of classic--authentic doom look while feeling so real and immersive--man... that would be the tits' pijamas. Okay, okay, essel does have a point--there is something a little funky about the textures--but even so, it still looks oh so sick--and if anything--the tiling helps tie it back to its roots--this is classic doom--for the modern era. Man--sure would love to see some monsters updated as tastefully! ...presenting the zdoom of the future (no corny glow effects of gzdoom or goofy 3d models of jdoom). EDIT: It would be really great to bring this thread into Wads&Mods where it would get much more visibility and maybe inspire an update to doom worthy of its glorious pixelated roots. EDIT: maybe send this to id Software and get them to pull their asses out of their hats and realize what they should have started working on 10 years ago? 0 Share this post Link to post
