Deertag Posted June 7, 2011 I'm having a problem trying to upload a Doom2 wad file to the idgames site and was hoping someone here can help me. Initially, I used a program called FileZilla. I typed in the following info across the top. Host: archives.gamers.org username: anonymous password: my email address here Port: 21 Under Local site, I clicked thru the directory tree on my PC until I highlighted the file containing my zip Under filename, I clicked on my zip file On the right side of the screen, I did this: I clicked on Pub then idgames in the Remote Site box, then in the Filename box below, I clicked on incoming. The entire operation was a fail and this is what I got: Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: CWD /pub Response: 250-"/pub" is new cwd. Error: Connection closed by server I've been going thru this for 2 days now and I can't figure it out. I don't have any experience and don't know anyone who does. So I'm turning to the Dooming community for help in the hopes someone can help me understand this stuff and get it working. Thanks much. Deertag 0 Share this post Link to post
xvertigox Posted June 7, 2011 Response: 421 Sorry, there is already 1 user from 69.248.15.168 logged on. Try again in 10 minutes. Have you tried restarting your router/network adapter? Hopefully you have a dynamic IP (Im sure most people do these days) and you'll get a new IP address and can try again. 0 Share this post Link to post
Deertag Posted June 8, 2011 Thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested but no go. What I did tho was to go to the FileZilla help page and did some things they suggested there and I finally got the message my file successfully transferred. I don't see them on idgames last 24 hours file, but it might be to late in the day to show up. I'll wait until tomorrow and see if they show up. Man, this has been a nightmare. lol Thanks again for trying to help 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted June 8, 2011 What were the names of your files? There are several places to look to see what has happened to uploads: ftp://ftp.gamers.org/pub/idgames/incoming/ http://www.gamers.org/pub/idgames/REJECTS http://www.gamers.org/pub/idgames/LAST.24hours I'm guessing the problem was that FileZilla's default settings were to create multiple connections, and you solved this by telling it to make just one connection. But if FileZilla isn't working for you, you can try to DOS prompt method described here (item 5). 0 Share this post Link to post
General Rainbow Bacon Posted June 8, 2011 I was having this same problem. I know nothing about code and stuff like this so I kinda gave up. How do you kick Filezilla in the balls and make it stop saying there is already a user from xxx IP adress? 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted June 8, 2011 Deertag said:Response: 421 Sorry, there is already 1 user from 69.248.15.168 logged on. Try again in 10 minutes. The master server doesn't like multiple connections - which happens to be FileZilla's default setting. If you've created a Site Manager entry for the archives, click on the "Transfer Settings" tab and limit the number of simultaneous connections to one - otherwise, call up the "Transfers" page in Settings and under "Concurrent transfers" set Maximum simultaneous transfers to one. Hope this helps. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bloodshedder Posted June 8, 2011 Filezilla 3.x stupidly requires using a separate connection for uploading and downloading. I have never figured out how to turn this off. I've stuck with 2.3.32 for a long time; it works, but it is no longer supported by the development team. 0 Share this post Link to post
xvertigox Posted June 8, 2011 Good info from Greyghost and Bloodshedder - I wonder if this is a common problem? This could possibly be worth noting in some sort of faq or thread? 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted June 8, 2011 You might want to try using WS FTP LE version 6, it is simple and easy to use for uploading since I use it so I am not bogged down with a bloated FTP client. 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted June 8, 2011 I was doing quite nicely with an ftp client called miFiles (now defunct) until it ceased acknowledging my registration details, that left me with few options apart from coming to grips with FileZilla's settings. 0 Share this post Link to post
darkreaver Posted June 8, 2011 Geeks. I just google "online ftp" and use the first hit. Could it be any easier? 0 Share this post Link to post
GreyGhost Posted June 8, 2011 Might be OK for anonymous ftp but I wouldn't use a random online service with password protected accounts - colour me paranoid. 0 Share this post Link to post

hex11 Posted June 8, 2011 There's also a Win32 native build of NcFTP somewhere, which is pretty straightforward and has nice filename tab-completion, bookmarks, etc. Eh, well I guess it's not hard to find: http://www.ncftp.com/ Watch out though, you need a FTP client to download this FTP client. ;) j/k your web browser should be able to manage. Btw, I like the "bgget" example they give: http://www.ncftp.com/ncftp/doc/ncftp.html 0 Share this post Link to post
kristus Posted June 8, 2011 You can do it with recent filezilla versions by simply setting up your queue then disconnecting from the server. Then telling filezilla to run the queue. 0 Share this post Link to post
phobosdeimos1 Posted June 8, 2011 I seem to get that but after a few tries it works.. 0 Share this post Link to post
