DASI-I Posted June 29, 2011 I'm currently building a 5 map WAD for Doom II but I feel like I should first upload some images to get some opinions and suggestions before I rap this up. So far I've only shown it to 8 other people that aren't what I would call "Doom fans". Some of them complained at how outdated this game's graphics are and that I should've been building maps for more recent games instead. So I've decided to show these images to the doom community to get a more accurate opinion: http://imageshack.us/f/89/cgoldenlg0.png/ http://imageshack.us/f/11/cgoldenlg1.png/ http://imageshack.us/f/833/cgoldenlg2.png/ http://imageshack.us/f/233/cgoldenlg3.png/ http://imageshack.us/f/339/cgoldenlg4.png/ not sure when it will be finished, maybe within a month or so (I'm busy on the 5th and final level). 0 Share this post Link to post
Walter confetti Posted June 29, 2011 looks nice, so it's a hexen\doom project, huh? 0 Share this post Link to post
Rambosee Posted June 29, 2011 This looks pretty good actually! The only thing I don't like is the second last screenshot. It looks too... mixed. 0 Share this post Link to post
Marnetmar Posted June 29, 2011 I agree with Rambosse. I don't really like the well in the first screenshot though, it looks kind of...well blah. Maybe it's the texturing. The rest of the screenies look great though! 0 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted June 29, 2011 Your friends are stupid. Looks great. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tango Posted June 29, 2011 that second screenshot is especially amazing. it's incredible what lighting can do for the atmosphere. it really looks great. 0 Share this post Link to post
Reisal Posted June 29, 2011 I think a bunch of short red torches in the well would look better, the well floor low enough so it looks like a nice strong fire. 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted June 29, 2011 Screens 1-3 look too cramped. Screen 4 has some alignment problems and what the hell is that door doing there? Nice lighting. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ralphis Posted June 29, 2011 Last shot has the shadows going the wrong way I think 0 Share this post Link to post
PRIMEVAL Posted June 29, 2011 Shadows in the last shot are fine. This looks pretty cool, nice mix of Hexen and Doom. 0 Share this post Link to post
DASI-I Posted June 29, 2011 Thanks for the replys, your comments helped me to discover one thing I would like to change in pic 4 (cgoldenlg3.png) Just to clarify what each pic is supposed to be: pic 1 is a secret room in a tower of a castle, cozy yet creepy. If any of you are worried that its too cramped to dodge fireballs and bullets, no need to stress yourself; you won't face any monster in here. The Well in the middle is actually a small fireplace with a chimney) pic 2 may look cramped but thats just because I was standing on higher terrain while looking down at the grave yard, some of the tombstones are actually taller than me.(you're not required to walk though them anyway, you just need to take the foot path to get to the church) pic 3 is a library, another cozy yet creepy room. pic 4 shows that the lighting on the floor is different than the lighting on the ceiling (which is something you cant do in normal Doom because the light levels have to always be the same for both the floor and ceiling) And as for the elevator: it's too complicated too explain. In short, a series of switches will make that elevator and ceiling do crazy things, it will only make sense when you play the map. pic 5, again, to demonstrate the different light levels between the ceiling and floor. 0 Share this post Link to post
Antroid Posted June 29, 2011 DASI-I said:pic 4 shows that the lighting on the floor is different than the lighting on the ceiling (which is something you cant do in normal Doom because the light levels have to always be the same for both the floor and ceiling) Actually, you can. Just raise the ceiling of the lighter sector by a considerable height, and leave no upper textures on the linedefs. I really liked the second screenshot. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
