Protecting Children from Internet Pornography Bill

Recommended Posts

Ok, a bill is in the works mandating ISPs to record and archive all search logs, file downloads, etc. of one's IP so the authorities can have access to your data without a warrant.

Well, this is an obvious ploy to buckle down on copy right infringement under a false label to increase it's chances of passing without protest.

A commenter named "Snooki_smoosh_smoosh" brought up this interesting scenario.

Snooki_smoosh_smoosh said:

Imagine if you will that your machine is hijacked by a bot or piece of malware, and starts bombing your machine with porn of any kind. Law enforcement sees that your machine has been viewing Kiddyporn dot com and decides to bring you in for questioning, they show up at your work, arrest you, Damage done. You may have been completely innocent, but your reputation is destroyed. You loose your job, Child Protection investigates you if you have children, wondering if you abuse your children, and the terror never stops. Child protection becomes a witch hunt fast, and you are guilty till proven innocent.

Now, your ISP already archives much of this, but it is not obligated to surrender information to the authorities without a warrant. If the cops now suspect you of having children searching for porno, they can look over your records and charge you for downloading copyrighted content or using some kinky search terms, etc, even if it wasn't on their agenda when searching.

This is much like the fourth amendment violation I brought up a while ago. You know, the one where a cop can label you suspicious of narcotics and barge in your home, then charge you for what ever illegal mishap you may have been doing.

It's gotten to the point where we are all breaching copyrights on a daily basis and they have been severely punishing people who download songs with extensive jail time or ludicrous fines.

What if people are accessing that type of material through the tor browser, the ISP could not record that could they? And they really just want to be able to record our browsing habits and make sure we are not dissidents plotting against the establishment.

This is 1984 right now. I am sure more and more people are going to use tor and a VPN from now on.

Fuck it, just jump ahead to the stage where we hire a bunch of law enforcement officers that will stand behind us and look over our shoulders all day. That's obviously where America's moving.

*America*

Land of the...slaved.
Home of the...moronic.

That's where I see us going.
I bet that's why NASA's trying to find INTELLIGENT life, because we're all stupid.

I bet George Orwell's rolling in his grave and feeling sorry for our arses right now. If I want to watch my girly-movies or look at my dirty pics, that's MY choice. It's why it's supposed to be called privacy. Where the hell is freedom now? Now the country's full of eavesdropping people who don't give a flying F*** about your privacy.

Not to get inflammatory, because I'm not. I'm just trying to prove a point (Oh, and I don't do the girly-mag or vid thing). If you want a good taste of where our freedom's going now, this just about sums it all up.

I think maybe the government's trying to figure out how much they can turn America into hell before everybody leaves the country. Let's not forget the bill that is in consideration that will wipe out about 85% of Youtube videos and destroy my only reason to even go there.

Truthfully, I dream sometimes of a world with NO government. Government has screwed us over in so many ways, from even the earliest of times. Here are a few of the reasons I know government is no good. Screw the schools teaching us about something that'll do us in in the long run.

1. Okay, so pot is illegal. People smoke it anyways. And what do they do wrong? Absolutely nothing. Do you see people who smoke pot get into car wrecks? No. I only see the drunks doing THAT. And here's the kicker: Alcohol's legal. Because you see, if people get into car wrecks, that'll be more money into insurance companies and hospitals, and that puts money into the gov't pockets.

It's like money is the root of all trouble today.
I'd like it to go back to "I give you rock, you give me goat" kinda thing. At least people weren't a bunch of greed-driven bastards...

You can all keep whining or you can join and donate to the EFF, which has a proven track record of fighting cases like these in court and actually getting some favorable decisions. Put your money where your mouth is.

I think one important point being overlooked in all of this is that a few years from now, the government simply won't be able to afford to run its 1984 agenda.

You got that one right. And unfortunately, most of us probably won't be able to afford our own agendas either...

Times like this make me wish I was old enough and had the money to move to Canada.

But since I can't I'll have to make due with a conservative dictatorial party in the majority.

I wouldn't bet on it. The budgets for defense and surveillance are going to be safe since even the most radical small government teabagger wouldn't even think about making cuts there. The tools of oppression are too useful. Now everything else -- welfare, public education, the justice system, even tax office -- can and should be privatized.

What's the over/under on the guy heading this operation getting nabbed for child porn?

There's anonnews.org
But if a bunch of people assemble wearing masks they'll probably just do this:

Then de-mask and arrest one by one, maybe using:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sting_operation
such as Agent provocateurs to light their own police cars on fire or something (assuming anonymous isn't agent provocateurs themselves) as an excuse.

Its weird that a minority can pwn a majority. That's what happens with predators in nature too. Zebras and lions both share a common ancestor. Now lions (originally the same group) are a minority making life hell for the majority. But humans have brains and language so its odd that this happens. Why can't the majority effectively communicate and agree on a politically powerful group action such as everyone just park your car on the fucking freeway, or stop using money, or just gather and beat up the minority using your superior biomass. If everyone cooperated we'd be powerful but humans don't work like that. Genes make us all selfish. At least they can't use a nuclear weapon on people who are dispersed among them without killing themselves too.

I think the elites hire stupid cops on purpose so they'll dumbly carry out orders for pay. The minority has the armies, weapons, media.. Its guaranteed that nobody can surpass them (unless an alternative like bitcoins is used maybe) because if anyone makes a fortune doing anything, they tax half of it. If anyone invents anything powerful like nuclear weapons or AI (AGI) they get their fingers in it. Whoever invents AGI should keep it secret from the parasite class, like some hackers keep zero day exploits secret:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7nfN4bOOQI

Maybe people shouldn't even bother with meatspace; just outgrow them digitally. Make a second life where power is decentralized and outgrow meatspace. Aside from mars and living undah da sea! the internet seems the only undiscovered country to build a new system. I think multiple experimental social/political/etc systems should run in parallel then 'good' qualities could be artifically selected.

Maybe the future is 'hive mind'; non-hierarchical decentralization. Bittorrent seemed unstoppable. Anonymous/bitcoin/anarchy seem to use this phenomenon.

Critical mass seems to make things degrade.. television.. internet.. humanity.. All well, at least I didn't invest any children in the future.

2. There IS a cure for diabetes. It's available now. However, the government will not allow the product to be sold at pharmacies, much less prescribed. Why? It'll bring down too much profit of the pharmacy companies.

Calling you on this bullshit. I would like to see proof of this. I would also like to see proof that if this "cure" was not put through the proper testing that everyone and their diabetic grandmother wouldn't be suing said companies.

People go sue crazy even when drugs are put through the proper testing and an undiscovered side effect comes up years down the road. This is in the same vein as the "dohoho there's a cure for cancer but drug companies won't make any money if they sell it!" It's insulting to people with family members who have died to cancer and it's simply not true.

I'm sorry for that comment, But it was something i'd heard from my mother. I'll see if I can find proof. I apologize.

You'll also have to make due with one if you do move here!

That aside, I agree with Dragonsbrethren. Anybody wanting to make claims about things like suppressed medicine, obscured energy sources, moon-landing hoaxes, etc. better have some damn good evidence.

Wow, impressive. As if that previous bill wasn't bad enough, now they are spying on us and our internet searches.

It hasn't passed all the way through Congress yet.

not sure if this counts. If not, I made a bullshit comment and wasn't thinking right. on all accounts towards that, I apologize in advance.
But anyway this was all i've found, which was given by my mother who claimed the above. I think she was mistaken, but I could be wrong.

...oh, and on a side note, sorry for distracting from the topic at hand. Another one of my government-idiot rants.

And lets hope it doesn't. This is truly absurd.
And about all these hoaxes, quit claiming shit thats most likely untrue. You can start any myth like this. Example

"The government already has ________ but _________ doesn't want them to hand it it out due to ____________"

Its nothing but a conspiracy themed adlib.

Like already said, i apologize. I might as well edit that piece of crap info outta the above thing then.

But I was being serious about the pot thing. I still don't get why that stuff's illegal, when alcohol isn't.

Please don't send me inflammatory stuff, and please don't post send me no stuff about I Was Wrong. I'm well aware of that. I'd already apologized for it. that said, I'm gonna go work on other stuff.

Maybe because it's too easy to manufacture (and hard to detect who is brewing without a license) and the huge numbers of people who would ignore that law would cause too much embarrassment & draw attention to the fact that the government can't afford to enforce many other laws.

hmm. point taken. I don't know why they don't legalize pot though, it's nowhere near as bad for you as alcohol. You still don't see people getting into car wrecks over marijuana influence.

A cousin of mine died after a pothead drove into her car.

But the pothead survived, so I guess it protects you from the wreck? Instead it just kills clear-headed people? Let's all smoke weed and drive to be safe.

All I get from this thread is that America is still going into a big fat hole of stupidity and shittyness that will eventually spark something bad that will cause lots of bad things.

So what's new?

I'm confident this bill will pass unanimously. They're pulling some sneaky shit by labeling this bill as beneficial to children.

"What, you like our children being exposed to perversion? Pedophile!"

It would be nice if the government actually tried to find out what the hell they were doing before they started doing shit like this. It was made obvious by the "copyrighted works" bill also happening now that the government has no idea how the internet works.

While we're here, it would also be nice if a magical unicorn suddenly appeared from a different dimension and shot magical IQ boosters into everyone on Earth's ass. Seems like a more likely occurrence, really.
