It needs the ability to load custom PWADs. Otherwise I don't feel like this has any added value.

Agreed. It's based on Boom so it has raised limits etc but none of that has been taken advantage of. You can load custom maps in Wolf3D Classic so I'm not sure why they haven't implemented that in Doom too.
