DeathevokatioN Posted September 24, 2011 Thanks a lot for the review, Udderdude. :) And yeah I think the best solution with slaughter maps would be that the slaughter crowd reviews them for Newstuff, because for the life of me, I could never envision a casual player ever writing a review that'll do ToD's high difficulty maps justice. 0 Share this post Link to post
Creaphis Posted September 24, 2011 Everyone's too busy defending ToD's maps to defend something of far greater artistic value: Chex Quest. I just want to say that I never played Chex Quest until a couple years ago so my fondness for it is untainted by nostalgia. The art and setting are just lots of fun and the gameplay in the third episode especially is very tight. 0 Share this post Link to post
Udderdude Posted September 24, 2011 Time for a review review? I don't even like slaughter maps and this review still managed to annoy me. :P Initially, the maps would prove to be interesting if executed properly. However, the author decided to go with "slaughtermap" as the theme (which is an excuse to have less detail). No, the 64 grid restriction was the reason the maps lack any serious detail. Each map is similar to all the others. Here's the rundown: Start -> BFG/Awaken Hellknights etc. -> Fight to new area/hit switch -> Archviles spawn in the dead monster pools -> Kill -> Switch -> Archviles -> Switch -> Cybers -> Switch -> Viles -> etc. -> end. This is the only good point in the entire review. Yes, slaughter maps tend to be very predictable/similar and there's not much you can do with them aside from ZOMG MOAR SLAUGHTER. People who like them will still like them, though. Maps weren't that fun to play That's just like, your opinion, man. and are impossible with one life due to low amounts of BFG ammo in some areas and the lack of walls to dodge vile attacks. Nope, they are, see UV demos etc. Only download to open with a map editor to edit out archviles or to take a look at the map structure itself. Nope. As an aside, the Terry Sux review made me laugh, even if the actual map was kind of retarded. 0 Share this post Link to post

TimeOfDeath666 Posted September 24, 2011 Yo dawgettes, thx for defending my wad. I thought the review was kinda funny, but: - this is the 3rd Anigav release, so a simple author search of /idgames would show the style, even if you didn't know who I was - peeps were able to FDA the maps - I should've added all the demos to the zip file like always, but for some reason I didn't this time. Dick move. - having 3 names is dumb. If everyone had 3 names, nobody would know who anyone is anymore. - 128 Lemons, yes I like it - lols facebook mom 0 Share this post Link to post
Creaphis Posted September 24, 2011 Also, everyone's too busy defending ToD's maps to critique them accurately as slaughter maps. udderdude said:This is the only good point in the entire review. Yes, slaughter maps tend to be very predictable/similar and there's not much you can do with them aside from ZOMG MOAR SLAUGHTER. People who like them will still like them, though. This shows that you're missing something too. Slaughter maps can be made less predictable/repetitive by giving them a more open layout. Maps like AV26 and AV32 are very entertaining because of all the viable route options that are immediately given to the player. The maps in this set are more constraining in terms of initial tactical options, so I found myself getting bored of restarting these maps after a death, as I had to keep tackling the same fights in the same way in the same order each time. ToD's fetish for repetition can also get in the way of the player's enjoyment; there are some players who already know how to 2-hit a cyberdemon who might not feel like doing so fifteen times in a row (MAP03). As for visuals, I feel that these maps are lacking the abstract, organic grandeur that can be found in many of ToD's other maps. These are not his best work. 0 Share this post Link to post

Texas Libra Posted September 24, 2011 Is this a "reupload edition" of /newstuff? I remember playing the Sirens and Missions wads about 10-11 years ago when I was still in high school... 0 Share this post Link to post

They aren't reuploads, as they were never in the archive to begin with (instead I got them from doomwadstation.) There was some other stuff I planned to upload as well, but they didn't have textfiles so there was nothing that could be done. 0 Share this post Link to post

It was a bit unintuitive at times, but nothing special. I've even found some sort of a secret level. Maybe only the single-hub version was broken, I don't know. 0 Share this post Link to post
Acid Posted September 24, 2011 udderdude That's just like, your opinion, man. You could have enjoyed wow.wad for its ingenuity for all I could care, but that's your opinion. I just didn't enjoy it as much. eternal slumber said:- this is the 3rd Anigav release, so a simple author search of /idgames would show the style, even if you didn't know who I was - peeps were able to FDA the maps - I should've added all the demos to the zip file like always, but for some reason I didn't this time. Dick move. - having 3 names is dumb. If everyone had 3 names, nobody would know who anyone is anymore. I treat all wads, no matter how famous the author, as anonymous. The names themselves shouldn't really set a standard for the future, in MY opinion. (Also, Dick Move on the demos for you or for me?) As well, to the others, I apologize for putting my opinion on it as 'hard' or 'undetailed', but again, those were just my opinons. Sorry to have pissed everyone off so much for it? And yes, since that review, I have managed to complete it in 1 life. I'd edit the review if I could, but w/e, it's just a few lines of text. Oh, and don't get me wrong as a slaughter map hater, just because I didn't enjoy this or DH85's speed session. I really loved Sunder (and the modified Chillax) and the Scythe/HR levels too, among many others. Before I forget, this album is themed as a slaughtermap and it's not really my thing. 0 Share this post Link to post
TimeOfDeath666 Posted September 25, 2011 BloodyAcid - I just meant that if you searched for Anigav, you'd see the style of maps (cuz all my maps are basically the same anyway). The dick move was on me, cuz I forgot to include demos. Creaphis - yeah, I usually don't make maps like AV26/32 cuz trying to keep track of all the different routes makes my head explode. I want certain routes/strategies to be used in a map, so I try to build the map around them in a way that those routes/strats will need to be used. Oh and you're right, two-shotting 15 cybers in a row isn't enough anymore. :) 0 Share this post Link to post

Creaphis Posted September 25, 2011 I prefer when there's drama. If there's nothing worth arguing about there's nothing worth talking about. 0 Share this post Link to post

MajorRawne Posted September 27, 2011 Porn wads, as if someone's still making those in this day and age. "Abuse of Doom" should be a Doomworld offence... then again, half of what Perseus uploads would be a crime. If someone actually comes along and makes a farmville edition of Doom I will literally shit myself and go on a rampage... I WILL NOT BUY CREDITS WITH REAL MONEY!!!
