Rainne Posted February 2, 2020 John Carmack has a cameo as the voice actor for a character (Specialist Wilson) in Doom 3. He's not bad at it either. 8 Share this post Link to post

Randy87 Posted February 3, 2020 You can get monsters to pickup stuff if you link them to an unused player slot. Did some save hackery. Vanilla doom. Doesn't work with chocolate-doom. savetest.7z 40 Share this post Link to post

DuckReconMajor Posted February 4, 2020 I ran the .bat file in the dosbox of my Steam Doom2 folder. Do I let the machine gunner kill me? I pressed the switches but they didn't do anything. 0 Share this post Link to post
Randy87 Posted February 4, 2020 Weird stuffs. The second zombieguy should die to the slime. Also, try the coop view button. 2 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted February 4, 2020 Ah ok. Worked for me in vanilla/DosBox when I do that. The little bastard almost killed me! 0 Share this post Link to post

When I load, it starts with a "Player 3 left the game" message. Interesting! Sounds like @fraggle has work to do! 2 Share this post Link to post

A Crispy Doom feature for random dead player decoration colors and then Linguica's edited save reminded me of it. I've been getting into Rust (the language) recently and decided to take a crack at the project. As for monster's picking things up, it was just a hunch. I could have just looked at the source, but given that I had the ability to manipulate saves, I just decided to give it a try. Also, I don't think Doom bounds checks state lookups... hmmm 6 Share this post Link to post
Scypek2 Posted February 4, 2020 What's with the freaky crusherlift though? Does it have something to do with player-activated actions? Or is it some kind of unrelated oddity achievable only by savegame editing? And I'm afraid to even ask about the chaingunner. 0 Share this post Link to post
Diabolución Posted February 4, 2020 Is that zombieman supposed to be impervious forever to anything, but telefrags? 0 Share this post Link to post

The two "players" are in reality severed heads on poles in disguise and have nothing to do with the monster pickup dealie. 2 Share this post Link to post
Wagi Posted February 4, 2020 Holy shit. Can they activate player-only linedefs? If they are barons/mancubus/arachnotrons, can they activate the specials when they die? What about the sector type 11? 3 Share this post Link to post
zokum Posted February 4, 2020 (edited) Too bad this can't work for demos. Would be fun to record e2m8 from a cyber's view. I wonder if that is possible to hack though... 2 Share this post Link to post

If you can hack a savegame to make a monster a pseudo-player, then yes, you could do it to a Cyberdemon... 1 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, but as far as I know, you can't make a -playdemo load a savegame to enable the remapping. You can watch a cyber duke it out though on another instance during regular play. Having records of speed run kills would have been awesome. I have never looked into why savegame loading and demo playback doesn't work. Maybe this is within the scope for chocolate doom as a bug fix, or maybe crispy doom? 0 Share this post Link to post

I think you'd want it in the open to be able to constantly attack it. Still, you could make the demo more viewer friendly :D You could have some pretty interesting boss maps if the cyber demon could pick up powerups and regain health etc. This could be a whole new genre of harder maps / boss battles. 1 Share this post Link to post
