Looking for a Doom 1 WAD

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I'm looking for a Doom 1 WAD I played some time ago which name I can't remember.

Basically it had 3 episodes, and each one of them was themed like the original Doom (Ep3 was hell-themed, Ep1 was base-themed, etc.). It was meant to have an original Doom feel, and as far as I recall, it used only the original art.

I'm pretty sure it's a rather well known WAD, so hopefully you'll know what one I'm talking about.

Thanks in advance!

Nope, it wasn't it :( Thanks anyway.

I remember there was info about it in the Doom Wiki, that's why I assume it should be a rather "important" WAD.

I'm trying to remember a little more about it. I think E3M7 was shaped like several concentric circles and had a weird name, and I'm almost sure that there were 2 spiders mastermind in E3M8. Hope that info is useful!

I was about to suggest Wonderful Doom but it has 4 episodes, only 1 spider in E3M8 and none of the maps are renamed.

Thanks anyway!

I tried to find the WAD I'm looking for in the Doom Wiki, but I couldn't. Maybe I just imagined that I saw it there? Damn, I'm confused :P

BTW, I'm really enjoying the "Ultimate NMD" WAD. Pretty awesome stuff.

No matter what, Ultimate NMD ROCKS.

But here are some idea I have. My top two, both rather uncommon Doom I megawads but they can easily fit what you're saying:

NJ Doom (really from 1994, upload was just in 2006) - http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14285

niveles.wad by Eye De Cul - http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=12647

If one of the above wasn't it, it could also be:

Extremal Doom (again really much older than 2006) - http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=14156

I was also about to list Invasion and Vengeance by Paul Fleschute but those have 4 eps.

Yeah, it was like playing Doom for the first time! I felt like a child again LOL :P

Actually, it might have had 4 episodes. As I said, I can't remember very well.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I'll give them a try!

Already checked all the WADs you suggested, and it wasn't any of them :(

I remember the levels were high quality (not extremely detailed, but very nice), and, as far as I recall, the WAD was made by a team, not a single author.

Maybe it was one of those wadpak compilations, or something like that...

I'm pretty sure it wasn't a compilation. It was a megaWAD meant to have the original Doom spirit, but with better designed levels.

Did it have custom music, by chance?

Sorry, I can't remember that :(

UPDATE: Just finished Ultimate NMD. It was SO good that I really don't mind not having found the WAD I was looking for in the first place.

Yeah, that wad completely rox on every manner. You should also try Beyond Revival for Doom II. A bit different style, but same author. I wish Fiend would bite that NMD bullet and make an E4. Then just call it Ultimate Doom (just kidding). But it is that good.

Of all possibilities, could it be the Lost Episodes you were thinking of initially?

Although, as a side comment, UNMD is actually exactly what the Lost Eps should have been IMO, because the former tops the later by a factor of 8 shown sideways.

Beyond Revival? Sounds good but no such title in the database. Have you a link?

Nice suggestion, but it doesn't really fit the description (4 masterminds in E3M8, and E3M7 is totally different, and there's no renaming).

Guys, I solved the mistery: it WAS Ultimate NMD the WAD I was looking for.

Why didn't I notice it at first when Memfis suggested it? Because I opened E3M7 in Doom Builder and it didn't fit my description (several concentric circles, blah blah), so I ruled it out.

Then, I played the whole WAD and didn't notice E3M7's name, but yesterday, for some reason I played the level again and in the intermission screen appeared the name "Malebolge". DAMN! That was the "weird name" I talked about in my second post.

But something was wrong: the level isn't shaped like several concentric circles, so why I thought that? Well, look at Wikipedia's description of "Malebolge":

[...]Malebolge is a large, funnel-shaped cavern, itself divided into ten concentric circular trenches or ditches[...]

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malebolge

So, I mixed up Wikipedia's description of the "actual" Malebolge with the level's shape.

hahaha I feel SOOOOO stupid now, and my memory is so bad that, even playing the WAD entirely I didn't recognize it LOL

Thank you all guys for your help!
