Super Shotgun Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Here's something interesting I stumbled upon:the shotgun fires 7 pellets in one shell, while the super shotgun fires 20 pellets for 2 shells.Do the math and you'll notice something's no quite right. But why? What explanation could there be?Does the SSG have...some sort of magicsl device in it?Or there was a plot at id at the time of Doom developement?Post your creative responses BELOW.Any explanation works,so go WILD WITH YOUR IMAGINATION...

The DB Shotgun is far less accurate at long distance; notice it's the only hitscan weapon which has vertical accuracy.

The other hitscan weapons only have accuracy offset's on the horizontal range.

EDIT: ah, you asked for crazy response, er... I'm all out of gum.

It's a stream of continual errors in the ammunition plant where the shells were all created, resulting in the manufacture of buckshot with too many pellets. By some astronomical improbability, the shells are always fed to the Doomguy's two shotguns in such a way that the 7-pelleted shells end up in the pump-action, and the 10-pelleted shells end up in the SSG. Try it for yourself, it really works!

The shotgun's tight horizontal spread makes it more useful at longer ranges, and it's higher rate of fire is useful against certain monsters. IMO these differences are more apparent and relevant in DM\CTF.

It's not mathematically logical, but it makes sense from a balancing point of view.

You guys can call it Super Shotgun. I personally prefer the term "Hand Cannon." :P

If that was the case, he sure fooled me.

Well,I prefer the term ''ASS-PUMPER''.It's more descriptive.

Hey, since the Doom community is 666 times better than Facebook (your words!), this must be at least 666 times better than Shitville ;-)

In any case, there's a very sound backstory to it (even if I wrote it -and read it a-posteriori). And here's how it all began.

About the topic....you might want to read this:

After SUPER shotgun, why go back (some do)?.

No. You don't.

Not the smartest thing you ever did today, eh? :(

EDIT: At least you got rid of it before the mods saw it. Well played.

You're missing something:it's not a link.Nobody told you to paste it in your browser. It's just a random piece of plain text.

gameplay mechanics. sure it doesn't make sense, but it works in-game, and that counts. otherwise you could go on nitpicking how doomguy can carry a truckload of ammo, outrun his rockets and so on.

*sigh* what do you think his next threads are going to be about, anyway? It's always the same, and it never fails, it never fails...

The SSG's barrels have some hitech eletronic plasma gauss scifi thingie that increases the speed of all projectiles inside the barrel after it shoots the shells. It increases the speed to an absurd level, that it even causes some of the pellets to break in the air into 2 pellets pieces due the atritum with the air. The SSG actually doesnt fire more pellets, some of the pellets breaks, and these pieces hits enemies like actual whole pellets.

Why else do you think they called it "super" rather than just "double barrel".

The Wizard did it.

that's similar to my explanation.. the UAC probably gets their weird shotguns wherever the Black Mesa security team & Marines from Half-Life get those quantum mechanical shotguns that shoot 2 rounds at a time in one chamber.

Obviously a normal shotgun has either 1 shell or 0 shells in the chamber, but a quantum shotgun chamber can simultaneously contain any quantum superposition of the total magazine capacity (8). but the triple blast dislocated everybody's arm so they just use 2.

as far as I can tell by watching Through The Wormhole w/ Morgan Freeman (Gordon's great uncle), quantum physics is generally equivalent to wizards doing stuff.

I....I love you for this.

And sarges, despite using the exact same shotguns as you do, shoot only three pellets at a time. :P

Personally, I think a British dude scrawled SOD and OFF onto the barrels to give it more power.

I thought this was crazy too because the way the normal shotgun has 7 pellets per shot makes you think the Super Shotgun will have 14, but it instead has 20. I mean, wow that's insane! Even though I'm puzzled about this, extra pellets makes the gun more powerful than you think.

Fortunately for you, there's plenty of explanations on this thread.Quantum phisycs, shell manufacture errors, you name it.
