I just got zdoom, and it does what I want. I may try the frilly stuff later.

Daikatana is really fun, but fighting robot bugs and alligators in the beginning is snoozes. I like quake 2 but I can't stand a game that don't have co-op, unless it's quake 3. Also, there can only be so many cyborg/dumptrucks with shoulder rockets in the apocalyptic future! Geez o man!

in all seriousness, make sure your PC can handle JDoom. Mine can't, I've never got it to work. ZDoom is just easy dooming, easy dooming, and a lot of fun besides...

I were able to play JDoom in 16bit mode on my old Celeron 300 on a 4Mb graphics card, with a good fps rate. The only con was that the lens flares didn't work correctly. They did in 24bit mode, but it went with 0.3fps then :P

Although JDoom's blurring is exceptionally nasty compared to most other GL engines I've seen. I could just take out my contacts and play ZDoom if I wanted that effect.

It depends for what purpose.

But the most annoying thing has got to be the dynamic lighting that go with the shots. It looks OK until it lands on a diagonal wall or corner or something, then you see the seams on the walls. Ugly.
