Map limitations (Entity count, line count, range, etc.)

My searches "how big", and "maximum", found:

I'd also like to ask for some tips on how to find information like this using better methods than searching forums with a magical phrase that might or might not give you any results.

Can't help you with part 2 but I remember being told (and experiencing) that the node-builders and most ports have a hard time when any point in a map is 16334 or more units away from the other, resulting in geometry that you can walk through and hitscans not working properly. This works diagonally as well, so practical limits are a lot less than the limits shown up in DoomBuilder (which are instead the absolute limits on geometry placement due to the co-ordinate data storage format, I think).

32768 iirc, and even somewhat more in PrBoom-plus
