Original Doom I and II modified WAD's?????

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for wads that are orginal wads apart of the two original games but have been modified or had add-ons to it? Where can I find some?

There's really no point in modified IWADs. Most mods are PWADs anyway, and those that are IWADs are doing it wrong anyway. Not to mention that it's illegal to distribute modified id IWADs.

Closest thing you'll find that's legal is Freedoom.

You're not really making it clear what you are looking for. If you're referring to custom made PWADs that can be loaded with either of the original games, there are thousands upon thousands to choose from. Check out the /idgames database to find links to those. As for which to try out, you'd be best off doing a forum search for "favorite" or "best" wads. That should give you a rough idea of which are worth playing. Note that some wads may require a special or advanced engine to run, but you can usually find this out by reading the description/test file with the wad.

If you're talking about something else, you'll have to clarify exactly what you mean. And yes, as Soda has said, if you're referring to modified versions of the original IWADs that contain copyrighted Doom assets, well, those are kind of illegal. That's why people make PWADs (patch wads) which are loaded with the original IWAD (that "replace" parts of the IWAD with bits and pieces from the PWAD).

Grab some shovelware CDs off eBay and you're bound to find some oddball megawads with mash-ups of IWAD and third-party maps, standard map sets with more/tougher or randomized monsters, re-arranged map sets and episodes with monster replacements.

EDIT - If you don't feel like buying shovelware disks, check out CD Textfiles who have some on-line.
