problem trying to unzip USD3MOD with 7-zip

I'm trying to unzip USD3MOD with 7-zip but when i try to extract it i get : "Can not open file 'C:/Users/Desktop/USD3MOD_1/USD3MOD.RAR' as archive. can anyone help?

Have you tried WinRAR? It may just be that the file is corrupt.

Some years back I read that 7-zip can't open RAR archives compressed with a certain method (a new format). I don't know if that is the case now however.

Tell me, why is RAR format still popular with the doom community (especially zdoom/skulltag communities) when 7z and zip are far more portable and widespread?

...and when zip and 7z are natively supported by some of the ports too.
