Killamangiro91 Posted June 27, 2012 John Carmack Vs. John Romero Who wins? Who was more important to the development of DOOM? Who kicks more ass? YOU CAN ONLY PICK 1! 0 Share this post Link to post
Nomad Posted June 27, 2012 From the thread title I thought this was going to be about two guys fighting over a prostitute. I'll have to think about this, Romero is a better idea man while Carmack is a better doing-things man. They both have their strengths, it's too bad they won't work together anymore. 0 Share this post Link to post
Killamangiro91 Posted June 27, 2012 It wouldn't be "The Battle of the Johns" then. I could have added Tom Hall, Adrian Carmack, etc ,etc. But I wanted it to be about THE JOHNS! 0 Share this post Link to post
Kirby Posted June 27, 2012 The fuck is this bullshit. I don't see any John Cleese on here. 0 Share this post Link to post
CODOR Posted June 27, 2012 I can't decide between Carmack and Romero so I choose John Stalvern. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jodwin Posted June 27, 2012 It could be exaggerated and said that Romero made the game while Carmack made it available (by making it run on worse computers). With that stretch in mind, even without Carmack the game ought to be just as fun, we just wouldn't all be able to play it back in 1993. Thus, Romero wins. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted June 27, 2012 I asked John Egbert for his opinion: (Spoiler: John dies at the end.) 0 Share this post Link to post
DuckReconMajor Posted June 27, 2012 I honestly like them both equally. So I refuse to vote in your poll. 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted June 27, 2012 I voted for the rocket scientist, not the rock star. 0 Share this post Link to post
Phobus Posted June 27, 2012 I like Carmack's track record of engine development better than Romero's game design record, so although Romero is E1, Carmack wins. He's still a humungous nerd though :P 0 Share this post Link to post

Doom_Dude Posted June 27, 2012 I looked at the results first, then voted Carmack just to make it a tie. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted June 27, 2012 damn you, thread! i accidentally clicked the UGO logo in the top right corner. the horror! 0 Share this post Link to post
Stroggos Posted June 28, 2012 I don't like deciding between the two but place a gun to my temple and I'll spew Carmack for a few core reasons but mainly because if he hadn't come up with that tech at that time who knows what we'd be playing. Also for coming up with the name Doom. But Romero did his fair share like teleports ground-breaking level design. The tools... Need I say more? They're both good equally. Like the Beatles singles before Yoko. 0 Share this post Link to post

Avoozl Posted June 28, 2012 My idea of both of them is that one is crazy and the other is serious. 0 Share this post Link to post

dmdr Posted June 29, 2012 I voted for Romero because the id games without his involvement aren't fun. Clearly he was doing something right. 0 Share this post Link to post
