# Simply question

## Recommended Posts

A set of prayer beads and breviary costs 110 coins.
Breviary costs 100 coins more than prayer beads.
How many coins cost prayer beads?

##### Link to post

That's easy, prayer beads cost 5 coins and breviary costs 105 coins.

With work shown:

x+y=110
y=x+100
...
x=5,y=105

Algebra, bitches.

Trick question. "Coins" are not specific currency.

Neat, I can sleep peacefully now.

Our previous currency could be translated to english as "coins". Sort of. Pesky euros took over.

A complex way of discovering your orientation.

Where the hell are people getting 105 and 5 from?

X are the prayer beads
Y is the breviary

The established facts are that:
X + Y = 110
We will call this result variable A

Y = X + 100
We will call this result variable B

Therefore:
A - B = 10

X is 10, not 5. Besides, it was already established from the start that Y is 100, so how on earth did people turn it into 105?

Not 100, unless X was somehow 0, which it is not

For clarification, here are the missing pieces that exp(x) left out

x+(x+100)=110
x+x+100=110
2x=10
x=5

x=5,y=105

Algebra, bitches.

I can only imagine a place that sells coins for the price of prayer beads :P

I don't think you've thought this through properly.

I can already see that you like maths (but you stopped using the exp fish :P), there was no need to elaborate on that trivial third-grade problem.

Breviery=x+100
2x+100=110
x=5
so x+100=105

Ohhhhh, I see where I made the error, simple grammatical misinterpretation. Jeez I suck at this.

Math seems way harder in English than in my native language ._.

Mental arithmetic FTW! I had the answer before exp(x) started muddying the waters with algebra.

Word problems, where you can buy 200 candy bars and no one says a damn word.

Fuck the kids, that Volkswagen is worth more than their lives

I couldn't imagine a car moving at 1 mph doing anything but gently pushing even a child out of the way anyhow.

I've never been good with algebra. How come the prayer beads don't cost 10 coins?

##### Link to post

Because then the breviary would cost 110 to be 100 more and the total would be 120.

It can still crush your feet if they end up under the wheel.

@BloodyAcid: but you've just run over the kids with the VW in order to line up with the cadillac :(

*Hellbent fails at 3rd grade math :(
