bgraybr Posted July 31, 2012 I have some old files stored in self-extracting archives that will only go to a floppy disk. Since I don't have a floppy drive I created a 2.88 MB .IMG file using MagicISO and mounted it using Virtual Floppy Drive. So, yay, I have a floppy drive now. The "disk" is formatted as FAT. However, when I run the programs I get the message "The current image format is not supported by the disk drive". It took me an entire day to get this thing to work on my system and now I'm stumped. I'm guessing that I need to format the image but I don't know which filesystem to use or how to go about formatting it. Is there some other way to obtain these files? I have a feeling that there's an easy, obvious way that I'm missing lol. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted July 31, 2012 I'm pretty sure 7-zip will allow you to browse the contents of floppy images. If you absolutely need it on a floppy (i.e. bootable), I think you're SOL. 0 Share this post Link to post
bgraybr Posted July 31, 2012 Ooooh, I can see the files and info using 7-Zip but it can't extract them because the "compression method isn't supported". Good to know that they're still there. at least. I don't need it to be bootable or anything, I just want the files. I only bothered with the virtual floppy thing because I thought running the self-extracting .exe was the only way to get the files out. 0 Share this post Link to post
bgraybr Posted July 31, 2012 Yay! I tried some other programs. The compression method/format/whatever is exclusive to WinImage apparently, so I was able to get the files out using WinImage. Problem solved, thanks Bucket. 0 Share this post Link to post
