He might have valid points, but I just can't take anything he says seriously. Also, when he refers to "foreign megabanks" ruining everything, a pretty large share of those are American Banks and Wall Street companies like J P Morgan, Goldman Sachs, the now collapsed Lehman Brothers and other such fraud-peddling scum. He can't blame the rest of the world for the US trying to win the race to the bottom.

In a way, this reminds me of Scotland wanting to secede from the UK. What the hell are Scotland and these states going to do on their own? Will they require lots of money and assistance from the union they are seceding from, as I presume they will? It's all very interesting but are they simply signing their own death warrants?

Texas would reap enormous economic benefits from secession. For one, they would be free from the federal income tax. As a country, Texas would run a trade surplus. They would be freed from the burden of bailing out bankrupt states like California. The states could begin to issue their own currencies, or continue to use the US dollar as their official currency like many other countries do.

This will play out much like the breakup of the EU. It just might take a long time. Think of Texas like Germany, and think of California and New York like Greece and Spain, and it's a pretty good analogy.

hahahaha... no. that's an utterly wrong comparison. also i thought federal money flows from the blue states to the red states, texas being the sole exception because it's an oil state.

Texas can legally split into more states. Just read this and thought it was really interesting. The odds of it happening are closer to none than slim, but it's an intriguing thought.

The situation in Scotland is rather different as it's already reached the stage where elected representatives are taking an active interest. That means people have actually looked into the possible implications and still believe it to be practical, rather than just a random person posting a petition online with no research involved.
