ZDS #300 - DooM II Nightmare! Let the obsession begin. Again

Good evening everybody!

I invite you to join us this Saturday to play through complete DooM II on Nightmare! skill.

The used source port will be ZDaemon (see ZDaemon.org).

The server will record a demo and if we can finish the game we will upload it of course, this would be the longest demo with the most players included.

We have tried this once almost 18 months ago and made it after a lot of tries, over 46 hours and 236 players participated: http://www.zdaemon.org/?CMD=news_item&ID=133&RID=30

As you can see it was very difficult for us to complete DooM II on Nightmare!

So feel free to join us, it was and will be a lot of fun!

No inventory reset, huh? We will either beat map29 on the first try or get stuck on it for 40 hours again. :D Time to practice the FJS jump...

Remember in SNS on Zandro when this was run? Remember when map 29 was completed really quickly for all things considered?

We're not going to get that lucky again, are we D:?

Regardless, I'll likely be there this Saturday to see all the likely hilarity that will come from it.

I guess I could join, but the rules aren't clear, and I can't find them :)
If you die, are you allowed to respawn?
What does 'no inventory reset' mean?
Is the difficulty higher than normally on nightmare? (because of zds300.wad?)
How can there be 236 players when/if the limit is 16 doom guys + 34 spectators?

Here are the promised DMFLAGS, they should answer most questions about the settings: http://www.zdaemon.org/?CMD=info&NAME=dmflags&SET=4,206241828,823606784 Looks like there will be no item respawn again which kinda sucks. One guy picks up 600 plasma cells and dies = game over. You have to rush forward so that you can pick up stuff before others but that means exposing yourself to high danger. I'd say the main reason why map29 took so long 18 months ago is because it was a multiplayer game. In the end termrork beat the map pretty much by himself when everyone else died near the very start and couldn't make things worse for him: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/14/coop20111219190633.png/

It is one life survival so you can't respawn.
"No inventory reset" means that you can carry weapons from one map to another.
I looked at zds300.wad and all it does is add a bunch of "ZDS 300" symbols to some textures and decorations. Looks kinda silly but whatever.
And by 236 players he meant all people that were on the server at some point, not at the same time. :)

Ok, thanks. (Is friendly fire on? If it's off, are you still able to boost other players by shooting them? :P)

@Nevan: good idea for another ZDS ** ;)
@Anima Zero: Sadly I didn't know about SNS, for sure it was also a lot of fun
@ClumsyDoomer: oh, do you live in Asia? Well the last time even 6 hours after the launch there were more than 20 people, so maybe you could join us in the early morning.
@Looper: Memfis answered your questions very very well. the dfficulty is the same as nightmare, not more difficult, but as memfis mentioned, Mulitplayer with so many players CAN be more difficult than playing alone. As you can see the last time we needed a lot of tries for some maps. Join us and we might get it faster this time :).
Ever tried to play with more than 10 people with friendly fire? If the BFGs come then also Monsterkills will come ;). Friendly fire is off and yes you can still boost other players (please don't shoot them into the lava;))
With the number 236 players I ment in total 236 players participated, they were not always on the server, the max. player number on the server was 34 on map17.

And another thing to say especially to the speedrunners out there: please don't rush in easy maps like map01 and map32, let the others pic the weapons they need (so map01 not under 15 seconds and map32 not under 30 seconds)
In difficult levels like 09, 17 AND 29 we all will be happy if one of you will do it ;). (as you can see at the last time, these 3 maps were those we had problems with, esp. map29)

Thank all of you for this great evening!

In total 138 players have participated to play from map01 to map30 in
a total time of 3 hours 8 minutes and 47 seconds!
If you take only the time we needed for the good tries (so without all failed tries) we get a time of 49 minutes and 43 seconds.

Too bad I missed it! You could have included all the demos, or an extra ZIP with the unsuccessful attempts, as the ZIP wouldn't have been impossibly big and the failures are about as relevant to check out as the exits if one wants a bigger picture of the work that went in to complete each level.

Yes, I'd like to have the failed attempts as well, especially that one where I died on the mountain on map29. ("GAAAAAAME!" :))

Failed attempts would be nice too. Mem's one map 29 fail was both a heartbreaker and a riot at the same time ;D.

have fun watching it and I have to admit I also laughed a bit in map29 at the failed try with memfis ;), because I thought: "... and now he dies" and well you did, I am very sorry for that
