Changing armor value for custom character classes?

I'm currently working on a multiplayer mod, and each class has different health, and hopefully armor. But, from what I know, I can only change health not armor. Is there a way to change it? Thanks.

For "normal" armors such as Doom ones, armor properties are defined in the armor actor class itself (see BasicArmorPickup). However, you can go the Hexen route by using HexenArmor class.
