Memento Mori: Brutalized Soundtrack w/ DL Link

Recommended Posts

I was derping around on Memento Mori with Brutal Doom and thought to myself: I wonder what it'd be like to have a metal soundtrack like in the Doom Metal wads for PWADS.

So, I looked up some covers of Memento Mori songs, found a whole collection by JD Herrera, downloaded them all in MP3 format, cut and edited them, researched which songs appear on what levels, converted them all to OGG format, and compiled them all in a music WAD. He didn't do covers of -every- song, so I took all of them from MM1 and all of them from MM2 and compiled them in a single WAD that could be used for both Memento Moris. Otherwise, I either would've had to have left a whole lot of the original MIDI songs alone, or I would've had to repeat specific songs a bunch of times.

As much as I enjoy Avalanche, it can't be repeated for every level, right?

Not all of the songs in this WAD appear on the levels they're supposed to. For instance, Avalanche was on level 1 in MM2 and Hidden Anger was on level 1 on MM1, but for them being in the same WAD, I left one of them for level 1, and put the other on a different level.

All of that being said, here's the download link:

Now all of you Brutal Doom players can play Memento Mori 1 and 2 with updated music! Not that the original music wasn't friggin' awesome, but you know. There was a metal WAD for the original DOOM levels, so I figured making a metal WAD for this PWAD was a good idea.

Just so you can hear the difference in music I'm talking about, here's a comparison of the original music versus the sort of tracks I compiled in the WAD, with the last 2:30 of the original Organic Gods next to the last 2:30 of the covered Organic Gods:

Enjoy.

Just for the record, I haven't been able to find any covers of the soundtracks from Requiem, AV, HR, etc... so, if anyone knows where I can find some, I'll be able to compile WADs for those, as well.

I would -love- to hear what Requiem's soundtrack would sound like as full-blown non-MIDI metal...

Also, just cuz, here're links to the original Doom Metal WADs. Since Doom Metal Volume 3 came out, I haven't seen links for these, so... here ya go.

Awesome. There needs to be more Brutal Doom-related content like this.

For hell revealed, it only uses songs from rise of the triad so I'm sure someone has done metal covers for the ROTT soundtrack.

Oh, really? ROTT's soundtrack... I believe I saw some covers of those songs the other day. If you'd like, I can get to work on a brutalized sountrack WAD for HR1 / HR2.

Might as well, since v19 is coming out in... 3 days.

Well, esselfortium, players of Brutal Doom have taken a liking to hyped-up soundtracks to accompany all of the bloodshed. I provided links to both WADs for The Ultimate Doom and Doom II in my first reply to this post. The hyped-up soundtracks go well with the hyped-up gameplay. Catch my drift?

but is that really more hyped-up than Persian yodeling or Slovenian-style polka?

I am also struggling to grasp that tenuous association with Brutal Doom.

However, I appreciate you taking the time to bundle JD Herrera's awesome covers of David Shaw's / Mark Klem's sublime MIDIs into a DOOM add-on. Cheers!

Again, hyped up / modernized gameplay + hyped up / modernized soundtrack = harmonious. Right?

No problem!

Repost from the official Brutal Doom FB page:

Hey, guys, remember how I posted the Brutal Doom OST to youtube? Well, I did the same for this Memento Mori Metal wad. Here's the link:

Now you can have it as both rage fodder in-game, and listening material at any other time! Sorry it's not mastered, but it still shreds hard. I credited JD Herrera and provided links to every single one of his respective videos in each video. You should really check him out - he's gone far beyond the Memento Mori OST and has shredded ROTT, Plutonia 2, TNT, and more!

Also, I've gotta say: After playing through a bit of MM1 with this Memento Mori Metal wad, I really like which tracks are on what levels. They just seem to fit; I put plenty of thought into what should appear where, and I'm glad how it turned out. Lemme know what you think, please, and if you have any criticisms, I can improve the track layout for Hell Revealed.

Check the description of any of the videos on that playlist for useful information and links, including repeat / MP3, download for MementoMoriMetal.wad, a link to the playlist itself from individual videos, and links to JD Herrera's videos.

Enjoy!
