Spliting one-sided Linedef into two or more

So I tried to split STARTAN texture on one-sided linedef into many shorter textures by adding verticles on that linedef and when I tested it with visplane explorer plugin in doombuilder 2, then I did not notice any increase of visplanes, drawsegs or anything else.
Does it mean that I can safely edit the textures that way without causing any performence problems for vanilla doom ?

One-sided lines are the least expensive way to add detail to vanilla maps, but they're not completely free. Each one-sided line visible in a scene adds at least one or more segs, depending on the complexity of the area and what the nodebuilder ends up doing. Likewise, each two-sided line visible in a scene adds at least two or more segs.
