Actually, those symbols date back many thousands of years and their first known usage certainly predate the first "necronomicon".

They're sigils from the Simon Necronomicon. Pop culture's favorite fictitious grimoire. They represent the three watchers. Drawn together overlapping each other they form the infamous gateway seal:

There's nothing to substantiate a legitimate Necronomicon. Aside from unproven claims of John Dee possessing such a manuscript.

This is ARRA, AGGA and BANDAR sigils, but they have nothing with original HPL's work. This is just some fan made stuff used in Doom probably at the instigation of Sandy Petersen.
