MIDI plays back in Windows Media Player but not in Doom ports

So I have this midi conversion of a Tyrian 2000 song (from borgmidi.zip from this page) and it plays back in Windows Media Player but both PrBoom+ and ZDoom fail to play it. What's wrong here, is the file broken somehow? Is that even a valid midi file? XWE doesn't think so...

Thanks a lot, I downloaded a program called GNMIDI and was able to extract the MIDI file from this RIFF file. That program is shareware though and will stop working after 2 weeks I think, do you know any free programs that can do that?
