If Elon Musk can successfully develop, market and sell the world's safest car (which happens to be all electric) then, by golly, I am excited about his hyperloop!

Elon Musk released a report that had dodgy artist renderings instead of proper designs? Was that some kind of attempt to misdirect industrial espionage? Perhaps the guys at Ansys just got an angry call from Musk about tipping off the Chinese. :D

The concept existed in the 19th century already, at the time of pneumatic mail, if not even before. Sure, if you throw enough resources at it it might be buildable. That doesn't mean it will also be as safe/efficient/cost-effective/gainful/more economic than existing modes of transportation etc.

Cool sketches, retweets of tweets of Musk "pulling an all-nighter on a presentation", "science fans" liking vague blog articles and friending "science rockstars" on Facebook... overhyped pop science or future of all science where PR is God?

My guess is they're just building public awareness of their corp with the coolest experimental thing they have in the lab. They must be well aware of the breakneck costs of building and maintaining this stuff. It's not like they're serious with that Tesla fad either.
