Innocent Blood. A map for E4M1.

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I read on the DoomWiki that John Romero made E4M2 in six hours. Today I tried to see what I could do in the same time (with DB2...). Suffice it to say that Tim Willits job is safe. Anyways.

I call this Innocent Blood.

This is a very small E4M1 map. Not much for six hours :(
Health is sparse and almost non-existent on UV.
Difficulty/Multiplayer is implemented.
Tested mainly on Zdoom but also a bit with prBoom+ and Chocolate.

Played through it. Not too bad (though it would benefit from a little more detail, which I assume you couldn't add in six hours). However, I felt like it involved a little too much shotgunning and chaingunning powerful enemies, which made it fairly tedious without increasing the challenge much.

I agree that the style of the map definitely maintains an Episode 4 feel, though.

Great map, it may not be Perfect Hatred, but the combat captures the spirit. Certainly better than my attempt at doing the same thing. I disagree that it needs more detailing, it terms of, well, clutter. What it needs is a little more light contrast. That would go a long way towards making it look better visually, the amount of sector based detail is actually on par with an E4 map.

One thing you might want to change is the ending pit. Having both the floor and ceiling open to the sky will make the sky a partial HOM in vanilla.

I wasn't saying it needs a lot more detail, just a little bit would make it slightly more interesting to look at (at least in the large areas). I agree about the lighting, though.

Downloaded and played through this nice, short map, which I found to my liking. However, I have to agree with the above concerns about lighting contrast and (a little) more detail in some areas.

Also, as you're going for the e4 style, I suggest making it darker. Right now, it's too bright and thus lack the "oppressive atmosphere" present in the originals.

Finally, the central gate disappears entirely into the floor when lowered, making it look a bit odd.
