Doom Marine Posted November 18, 2013 Been awhile since I've torrented, looking for a barebone torrent client software with a good reputation (and not packed with malware / toolbars). What's the word nowadays? 0 Share this post Link to post
doom2day Posted November 18, 2013 qBittorent should suffice for all of your linux iso downloading needs. http://www.qbittorrent.org/ 0 Share this post Link to post

DoomUK Posted November 18, 2013 uTorrent has served me well for years. If you're a stickler for absolute minimalism in your software, it might not be for you. Latter revisions do come with some superfluous fluff. But all of that can be disabled by clicking a couple of things. 0 Share this post Link to post

Clonehunter Posted November 18, 2013 I think utorrent is one of the more popular, but there may be better ones out there. The newer version of it is a little slow on startup because of they need to load all the extra 'Sexy Russian Singles' adds, so yah, an older version would be a bit better. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bucket Posted November 18, 2013 I believe 1.7 was the last version before all that junk. It had some pretty nifty features like a scheduler, too. 0 Share this post Link to post
Varis Alpha Posted November 18, 2013 i use uTorrent myself, but later versions seems to come bundled with a PUP called Conduit Search. me and my smartass-self got infected with it on two different systems. thankfully, it's not hard to remove at all, but just something to keep in mind if you'd get that one. 0 Share this post Link to post
printz Posted November 18, 2013 What's wrong with "vanilla" BitTorrent? It hasn't been mentioned. I just use it, had no problems. 0 Share this post Link to post

Koko Ricky Posted November 18, 2013 Can anyone comment on Vuze? I've used that one for a few years and have had no major complaints. 0 Share this post Link to post

Doom Marine Posted November 19, 2013 Jodwin said:v2.0.4 utorrent. Old UTorrent was trusted. The current UTorrent is malware! I had an old version of UTorrent, and when I logged on a week ago, it pestered me to update. Trusting UTorrent, I setted up automatic recurring updates. Upon updating, it changed my homepage into some spam Yahoo search engine, and installed "Search Protector" without my permission. At no point during the process was I given a prompt to turn down these things. My case is identical to this complaint: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=141506 I deleted the torrent and program, and ran a full system scan with several recommended anti-malwares and anti-viruses. Needless to say, fucking UTorrent is off my list. 0 Share this post Link to post

Koko Ricky Posted November 20, 2013 Porn is still a commercial product that you're supposed to pay for, so that doesn't really make sense. 0 Share this post Link to post
flubbernugget Posted November 20, 2013 Sorry if this is a bit of a threadjack, but what exactly is the advantage of a torrent download over a regular http download from a sever? I think it's harder to track pirates with torrents, but if your downloading that Linux distro for example, what advantages do a torrent provide? 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted November 20, 2013 http download from a server -> you need a server and a good one, assuming a lot of people will be downloading torrent -> people download the file from other people all around the world, no need for a server 0 Share this post Link to post

hardcore_gamer Posted November 21, 2013 Clonehunter said:Paying for Porn doesn't make sense either. I would argue that paying for porn is actually one of the dumbest thing you can do, since most porn sites are known for pulling of all kinds of bullshit in an attempt to scam money from you. There are cases of people completely replacing their credit cards just to get rid of their porn subscriptions. If you are going to pay for porn, then buy something you can actually hold in your hands and use real cash. Otherwise avoid. 0 Share this post Link to post
Clonehunter Posted November 21, 2013 Completely true, though I wouldn't buy it either way. There's enough free stuff out there anyways, and if it does run out, one can always develop their art skills to create their own. And again, best buy from say, indie devs who just want to get their smut out there and sell by the CD through Paypal or something. The only problem with that then is don't let the missus find out. 0 Share this post Link to post
