invictius Posted December 8, 2013 Do these exist in wads? Excluding damage from staying underwater of course. 0 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted December 8, 2013 Apart from the damaging water floors in UD's map Pandemonium due to the idea of it being irradiated, I'm not so sure I have ever come across any custom wads with it implemented. 0 Share this post Link to post
TimeOfDeath Posted December 8, 2013 Actually, when damaging sector effects are used on water sectors, it's hardcoded to disable the damaging effect. That's why you never see them in wads. 0 Share this post Link to post

It still did damage to me in PrBoom+ (complevel 2, if that matters). Tried booting up Chocolate Doom, but it's complaining about lump numbers. Still, even if it worked in vanilla Doom, surely you'd notice it in Boom or other source ports as such. 0 Share this post Link to post

Marcaek Posted December 8, 2013 I would just like to take this opportunity to say that damaging FWATER is sexy. 0 Share this post Link to post
TimeOfDeath Posted December 8, 2013 teehee I've seen them in several pwads and have used it myself. 0 Share this post Link to post

Obsidian Posted December 8, 2013 I recall MAP06 of Going Down by mouldy had damaging water. 0 Share this post Link to post

Jayextee Posted December 8, 2013 When I made Sinister Intention I swore that the blue of the FWATER flats looked less like water than it did some kind of coolant fluid that would be dangerous to the touch. Which is how I used it in MAP02; though there's not a huge amount of it. 0 Share this post Link to post
mouldy Posted December 8, 2013 Obsidian said:I recall MAP06 of Going Down by mouldy had damaging water. The idea behind that was since that map is a giant computer, those rooms with water in are for cooling the processors or something, so the damage is coming from the heat of the rooms rather than the water itself. I don't mind so much people using damaging water (it don't look like normal water to me anyway) as long as they are consistant with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted December 9, 2013 Water in hell maps should probably always hurt the player. Water in hell? That could only possibly be there in order to tempt the damned, who are parched with eternal thirst. Then it burns them like fire. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doominator2 Posted December 10, 2013 Thanks for the idea im going to make a wad with damaging water floors.XD On a more serious note I don't remember any harmful pools of water but their has to be a WAD out there with damaging water, to think about it I dont think Plutonia had any damaging floors at all. 0 Share this post Link to post
Da Werecat Posted December 10, 2013 It had. Just watch the stock demos. But it also had a confusing habit of using non-damaging green slime from time to time. 0 Share this post Link to post
lupinx-Kassman Posted December 10, 2013 A lot of old wads had this if they wanted to simulate "deep" water. Play The Adventures of Sub. 0 Share this post Link to post
soner du Posted December 10, 2013 MAP03 of Requiem, Poison Processing, has damaging cold water at the beginning : http://doomwiki.org/wiki/MAP03:_Poison_Processing_(Requiem) I remember playing another WAD with acid pools (actually water flats). I can't recall the name of the megaWAD, but it's another classic. 0 Share this post Link to post
