A Doom mod for Wolfenstein 3D?

Recommended Posts

Great job whoever did this. I didn't know Wolf engine allows:
- armor bonuses
- weapons using different kind of ammo
- teleporters
- changing floor textures

I always thought doors opening sideways are so much better :)

I got very engaged in the youtube video, as I tried to quit the "demo" by pressing F10 :))

Yeah, Wolf modding is pretty crazy. Just read this description of some old level set:

"_Temporary Insanity_ is a set of thirty Wolf3D levels in 6-episode
format. (Don't bother converting them to the shareware level format--
they won't work. 3-episode *might* work, but we haven't tested it.)
Some of these levels were previously released as "Nat's Wolfenstein 3-D
levels," but most are completely new. Each of the levels uses both keys
and fills the entire map. Just like in the original levels, you'll
start in a jail cell, but this time it's locked... and you don't have
the key. It gets worse from there.

These levels use tons of neat effects you have probably never seen
before: walk-through walls, walk-through objects, self-moving blocks,
invisible enemies, statues that spring to life when you shoot them,
areas where you move uncontrollably, red-hot walls (don't stand too
close!), locked doors that can't be opened with either key, forcefields,
areas that can only be reached on certain difficulty levels, time limits
(no, not par times, actual time limits enforced by the game), places
where winning depends on knowing who *not* to kill, mazes where facing
the wrong direction can be fatal, two secret levels for Episode One, and
much more! All of this is done without modifying the Wolf3D program in
any way."

They're both on the Wolf3d engine. I like both of these TCs. They both offer something slightly different though I'd probably plump for Klooni if I had to choose. That one also has extra mapsets. I always wanted mapping for it to take off. It's pretty cool having something kinda halfway between Wolf and Doom. :)

But that doesn't account for what is seen in that video, like floor/ceiling textures and distance mapping. That must be a Klooni-only mod, as mallo suggested.

Well, there was WolfenDoom...so why not DoomWolf? ;-) Though I'd like to see a mod that ran on the original engine, with all of its limitations.

I don't get it. Why would anyone want to do this, except as an experiment?

I've always found Wolf3D more hectic than Doom. Too often the Doom 1 enemies are pushovers who need sheer numbers or player's distraction in order to win. With Wolf3D it's more even.
