divx codec?

Recommended Posts

bugger. I just finished downloading south park - wacky molestation adventure, but it don't work. I'm using Mplayer 7.1 and everytime it tries to download the correct codec it just plays it without finding it so all I get is sound. Does anyone know what to do (coz I be crap with this).

The first thing you can do is stop using that bloated hog of a media player 7.1 and find 6.4 somewhere.

You should download the actual codec from the DivX site.

P.S. 100% of the time, Media Player 7+ will not be able to download the required codec. Disable that useless feature if you choose to continue using 7.1.

God I hate Media Player 7 and 7.1. When it can't find a codec it plays the video anyways, and doesn't tell you there's a problem. Deleted it within an hour after I installed it. I'll make an account on my server with the codecs and Media Player 6.4.

Oh, and South Park rules. :P

[edit]
Ok, the account has been made. Has Media Player 6.4 and a codec pack with just about every DIVX codec you need.

ip: 24.72.20.212 OR doom.wrong.button.com
username/password: public/public

or a link:

ftp://public:public@24.72.20.212

Enjoy.

Media Player 7 took too long to load and uses up to many resources atleast on my machine, so I downgraded to 6.4. My friends machine it would severly chunk the video. He didn't have a single problem with Mp6.4 and his video runs smooothly. I think there is some problems on it 7 with machines running 2000k, Me, 98.

Microsoft sucks at making stuff, except XP, XP rules. If MS was smart they would write in download resuming into IE, like Getright except you wouldn't have to pay.

Well, I'm using MP 8.0 (comes with XP) and it load like in 2 sec. Can't get much faster loading, can it?

Since I got a GeForce2MX I haven't had working divx at all, which is a pain because I primarily bought it in order to watch movies full-screen (was using s3 virge 4mb). I imagine it works ok in linux though.

Divx is pretty shit anyway, I've watched the same file on different computers and they've had errors in some places that only occurred on one machine etc. what a hack of a format. Shame nothing else is so well compressed :|

I try and stick to VCD or SVCD compatible MPEGs nowerdays. Only takes an extra 15 minutes or so to download, and I can burn 'em to watch on my DVD player/television.

Um I've never had a problem with MP7, what's wrong with the rest of you?

Well, my Media PLayer was working great as well.

Then one day it decided to commit suicide. It hasn't worked since.

Sucker! I use Winamp for my mp3s. All I ever used Media Player for was porn.

Heh sucks to you all! I mean, how are you today?

Just joking on that first bit. Anyways, I don't even run Windows Media Player...I have a better player : IfranView...well it is a bit lame but runs about 10 times faster.

hmm, well it seems many have had problems with WMP7.1, I use it, and have very little problem with it, especially when the other options I have, of the top of my head are QuirkTimed, and RealCrap...SO WMP is fine for me.

mplayer2.exe

If you have Media Player 7 you have it. Try it out. I use WinAMP for all my audio and I assigned mplayer2.exe to be the default viewer for just about all my video clips.

This should make you feel pretty stupid, especially if you actually downgraded your shit.

Not only is it a total hackjob of a codec, when you install it it fucks up the real MPEG2 codecs you ALSO have installed if you have any software DVD players (windvd, powerdvd come to mind) and will happily and without further thought break DVD playback in WMP. It's quirky in what it will and will not work with (given the number of incarnations the codec's been through, and the number of different versions of DivX ;) files out there ...), etc etc.

Divx 3 was a complete and utter piece of trash. It literally made my Windows bluescreen every FIFTEEN minutes, and 99% of the time I hadn't even used the Goddamned thing.

Divx 4 never gave me any trouble, and it went along nicely with WinDVD. When you install it, it will ask if you want it to play all Divx 3 content as well.

I'm on Divx 5 now, and it has yet to cause me the slightest bit of trouble.

Heh, WMP7 sucks really bad. I try to open a video file, it takes about 10 seconds to load up. I switch it to fullscreen, the screen goes blank for about 5 secs, then the movie comes on, which has been playing in the background during the transition from a window to fullscreen. With WMP6 (mplayer2.exe), I open a video file, it instantly loads up. I switch to fullscreen, it does it instantly again...

Yeah that's because 90% of the time, WMP7 is a bigger load than the actual clip you're trying to play. Like I wanna load a 9MB player to play a 40k soundfile. Pffffft.
