marxr Posted May 25, 2014 So I was bored one day and decided to replicate my room in doom builder, got that done and went on to create a whole house. Target engine is ZDoom since I made this map in ZDoom doom in hexen format. It's also playable in deathmatch. Details are not over the top but you can make out what things are supposed to be. Theres no new graphics except some pictures, ceramic tiles, new sky and parquette. Also features new music. I was inspired to make this map by this guy who made his house in Doom 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M8b_F_Xqpg Some screenshots: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mciz60gq8ktiujj/AACD6Wkc1d9pHnoq7MLdNZ7ea IF anyones interested heres the download link (updated version): https://www.dropbox.com/s/qi55t09dtvf0j15/HOD.zip 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted May 25, 2014 You know that so-called "my house" wads are classical examples of newbie-ish maps of subpar quality, as well as for example hospitals? :) They can be pretty much considered a type, or "genre", of wads, because they have many similarities with each other. Like the Hitler's portrait in your living room. :P I really appreciate how you've made the level relatively comfortable to move around, and makes sense for a possible deathmatch game. The staircase silent teleport transit is very influent, though. Now I want some ways to switch off lights, but I don't expect you'll be bothered. I really prefer actual, good, playable level design, worth the creation. However, nice thingy. Please don't take my words anyhow as some harsh criticism, my words are quite inserious, as well as your work is. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
marxr Posted May 25, 2014 ok, thanks i guess :D completed this in 15 hours maybe it is basically designed for me and my friends to deathmatch in, just thought i shared my work in case anyones interested. To switch off lights i would have had to make two switches everywhere and thats pretty inconvenient so i thought let the lights be on for eternity. BTW didn't know that "my house" wads are classical examples of newbie-ish maps of subpar quality, whatever that means. 0 Share this post Link to post
40oz Posted May 25, 2014 I don't know why I put off making a wad out of my house. My house is small enough it would probably only take me a weekend to make. The tricky part would be making the middle textures to simulate the furniture in my house. I'm sure I could do it though. 0 Share this post Link to post
marxr Posted May 25, 2014 yeah you should make one, pretty fun. As i said took me 15 hours to design so basically i completed this map yesterday, made it whole day. 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted May 25, 2014 I'm secretly a fan of house wads to be honest, I prefer them with monsters though. This is one of my favorites, with good tight gameplay and strong evening atmosphere. 0 Share this post Link to post
marxr Posted May 25, 2014 I thought about putting in monsters but then decided that this was a bad idea, however i should make one version with monsters now that you talk about it. Wait i have a better idea, if you want you can make your own version of this with monsters and share it here too. 0 Share this post Link to post
jute Posted May 25, 2014 Perhaps a "my house" community project is in order. 0 Share this post Link to post
marxr Posted May 25, 2014 Uploaded an updated version wich has some new graphics and other fixes. The split floor texture in the living room is intentional because it is how it is supposed to be, i think my father didn't read the John Romero level design guide when he build the house lol. 0 Share this post Link to post

I btw didn't use much custom textures, the furniture is as it is, brown blocks basically, maybe i'll take a closer look at it and use some custom middle textures for furniture. 0 Share this post Link to post
marxr Posted May 26, 2014 Uploaded even more updated version, for example i was missing a window in one place etc. 0 Share this post Link to post
