Dethret Posted June 9, 2014 Hi! I have a problem with my doors which i can't find explained anywhere else, on this forum or the internet. So I would really like some help. I understand how to make doors, and before you ask, yes, the linedefs are facing outwards and have the right tags and whatnot. So on to the problem: My doors are starting in a open position. They are also invisible until you activate them, then they close. One door however is closed as it should be, but the others are not. To summarise, my doors are open at the start of the level, they do not close until you activate them, and they cannot be seen until you activate them. The doors are 2-sided and have the correct linedefs. Does anyone know what the problem is? also, I'am using DCK for DOS. I know, why not use Doom Builder or Slade? I like to go at it oldschool. Maybe thats the problem? But nevertheless, the wad works fine. Except the doors problems, which are also apear in zdoom and other source. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ribbiks Posted June 9, 2014 It would likely be easiest to debug this if you could post the wad containing the door issues, I'd recco filsharing sites like mediafire, sendspace, etc 0 Share this post Link to post
Vermil Posted June 9, 2014 One also has to lower the ceiling height of the door sector to the same as the floor (to make a standard door). 0 Share this post Link to post
Dethret Posted June 10, 2014 I uploaded the .wad file to mediafire, it is packed in a .zip format. Download: https://www.mediafire.com/?bl93w4qq9p71noa 0 Share this post Link to post
traversd Posted June 10, 2014 I think Vermil was correct. Sectors 20, 24 & 29 all appear to be setup to be doors but their ceiling height is the same as the surrounding sectors/as if they were already open. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted June 10, 2014 A door can start part way open, but not all the way flush with the surrounding sector. A door wants to open to *8 below* the surrounding sector, not flush with it. It will always start by moving UP if it is an open-wait-close type of door. You cannot create one of these that starts on a down stroke. For that you must use a "close" door special, and then have some other way of opening it if it needs to be opened again, like a remote switch. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dethret Posted June 10, 2014 Thanks for your responses! So if i lower the sector with the door it should work? 0 Share this post Link to post

I think you mean 4 units below the lowest adjacent ceiling. :) Also, maybe I'm misunderstanding the rest of the post, so feel free to ignore me, but you can use door open actions for instant lowering ceilings, if the lowest adjacent ceiling is <4 units above the door sector ceiling height. 0 Share this post Link to post
Searcher Posted June 11, 2014 Dethret said:Thanks for your responses! So if i lower the sector with the door it should work? Yes, Set the ceiling of the door to match the surrounding floor. For example set it to zero if that matches the floor of the room you will be fighting in. 0 Share this post Link to post
