Solarn Posted June 28, 2014 So I had an idea. We haven't really had a traditional speedmapping session for a long time, and when we did have them, they'd often result in only one or two maps being made due to lack of interest and free time. So how about we have a session lasting an entire week? From Monday to Sunday, anyone can participate, the only restriction being that a single map must not take longer than 120 minutes to make. Would there be any interest in that? 0 Share this post Link to post

The last one: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/68974-abyssal-speedmapping-session-7/ resulted in 15 maps being made! I was thinking of a completely traditional session like the DWSPD series, with the whole thing done on the forums and playtested by the mappers themselves. That way it would be open to people who (like me) can't or won't use Skype and similar P2P chat programs. 0 Share this post Link to post
jmickle66666666 Posted June 28, 2014 (sorry for the off-topic) obsidian: did you replace my map with my fixed version? link -> http://www.doomworld.com/vb/post/1280865 Solarn: the playtesting is still done by the mappers themselves during the session (time is allotted for it), but tarnsman usually plays through them all after the session is over. 0 Share this post Link to post

Your idea has merit though, it kind of reminds me of the "A Megawad in Two Weeks" project a few years back. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tango Posted June 28, 2014 lately I've actually been thinking of some sort of mapping "club;" not sure how it'd play out but in some way out would function like what you mention, with the main idea being that there's a semi long period of time between each... deadline or showing or something, so we kind of decide something like "every other Saturday we post whatever shit we're working on and play each other's stuff" and the whole thing functions to motivate and also give us a good steady environment for sharing and feedback etc. in a way I guess it sounds somewhat pointless and I for some reason had a really hard time describing it, but a forum-based mapping club sort of thing would be cool I think. a bit like the dw megawad club, only for mapp 0 Share this post Link to post
Memfis Posted June 28, 2014 Why is it always 2 hours on Doomworld... Almost never seen something truly interesting born in a such short period of time. Traditional Russian 4 hours all the way baby. 0 Share this post Link to post

Excuse me, the traditional length for the Doomworld Speedmapping Sessions was 100 minutes, except for the one time when I set it as 60 because I was stupid. 120 is already an improvement. And all the maps in dwspd024.wad (some of which are really good, although maybe not mine) were made within that time limit. 0 Share this post Link to post

The idea of having a full week to turn in a map is a good one too, as long as people are honest about how long they've spent on the maps. 0 Share this post Link to post
scifista42 Posted June 29, 2014 I'm all for 4 (or more) hours instead of just 2 or 3. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
