Recommended Posts

You can probably still play it - just not with great graphics.

Calling this demo "Doom 3 graphics" is an insult to Doom 3.

Calling this anything is beyond stupid.

I don't need no stinkin' test thingy! I already know that my GeForce 4 ti 4600 with 128 ram is gonna kick some ass. I bought it just for Doom 3....well...my dad bought it for me...same thing...

Hm, Carmack once said that the GeForce 3 would run Doom 3 better than the GeForce 4. Besides, it would've been a lot smarter if you waited until Doom 3 went gold and then purchased a "GeForce 5" (or equivalent) for it, 'cause the GeForce 4 wont allow you to run Doom 3 smoothly with the really cool features turned on.

When did the "real" GeForce 4 come out?
The last thing I remember to come out of Nvidia was the GeForce 4 MX.
Oh well, I'd still wait until Doom 3 comes out before I buy a new card - buying the newest and best NOW is a great way to get rid of a lot of your money, when you can buy a card which is well able to run Doom 3 at high settings at a lower price when the game is out.

You're a few months behind. They came out in January.

DirectX 8.1 / OpenGL 1.3:

GF4 Ti4600
GF4 Ti4400
GF4 Ti4200

DirectX 7.0 / OpenGL 1.2 (Limited OpenGL 1.3 functions):

GF4 MX460 (planned, but as of yet unreleased)
GF4 MX440
GF4 MX420

The MX models of the GF4 are significantly slower and less capable than the Ti series. It's not to say that they're slow (even the MX 440 rips a new asshole in a GF2 Ultra and a GF3 Ti200 in DirectX 7 stuff) but they lack hardware vertex and pixel shaders that are required to run the neato features in DX 8.0+ and OpenGL 1.3 apps.

i heard once that the geforce4 was worst for doom 3 than the geforce 3 ti500, but then i heard that the geforce 4 4600 is the same as the ge force 3 ti 500 plus the tv in and out, and the speed a little bit

If you own a GF3 it would be complete stupid to buy a GF4.
The performance isnt that much faster as it could be a reason to buy a GF4.

But lets wait and c what we will get in autum.
3D Labs have a great new graphic technologie researched. The first cards (not for sale) reached the double filltrate (!) of a GF4 with much cheaper RAM on board. And you can code EVERYTHING on this chip :)
Its FULL programmable, so you can create whatever you want.
But read more here...

True.

False.

Even the low end Ti model, the GF4 Ti4200, is faster than the GF3 Ti500.

The Ti500 debuted with a $500 MSRP. The Ti4200 is around $200.

Did I mention you also get faster AA, dual monitor support, and much improved image quality (this actually has to do with the VGA filters that the card manufacturers put on the graphics cards, not NVIDIA's processor.)
