Baneful - A Hellish Megawad WIP 9 maps Finished

This is a hell themed megawad that I have been making for the past few weeks. Atm I have 9 maps completed and am aiming for a public release every 10 maps.

This wad requires zdoom because there will be some new monsters that I am spriting myself in it. This megawad will be mod friendly except for the new monsters, but that shouldnt effect most mods anyways.

My current aim for the project is to improve my mapping skills so that they will be more refined once I decide to make maps for my doom styled fps that I am making.

Once I complete all 30 maps I shall release this wad as finished, however I will keep making maps for this and release them as expansion packs.

Current New Monsters

Hellfire Baron - A stronger miniboss type baron that has 1500 health, tosses flames at you and casts fire nova instead of clawing you at close range. This demon is good at starting infighting so use that to your advantage.

Sadistic Demon - A slightly stronger and faster pinky. This demon has a ranged attack but will bite you if you get to close.

Cyber Brawler - So cyberdemons do have babies? Well luckly these guys arnt quite as deadly as their adult counterparts and thus only have 500 hp, however instead of deadly 1hit KO rockets they shoot out small seeker rockets but for a fraction of the damage.

Mancuwar - A stronger breed of mancubus that shoot out high speed flame bullets instead of large fireballs. These guys still have a high painchance so use that to stop them from pumping you full of hellfire lead.

Cacomancus - A deadly mancubus cacodemon hybrid. These assholes fly and shoot twice as many high speed fireballs at you, did I forget to mention they have 750 health?

Hellbruiser - A four armed hellknight, need I say more? These fuckers toss out two baron fireballs at a time but have a chance to toss one from each hand (4 FUCKING FIREBALLS). They have 800 health and are very deadly.

Revenant Horror - Holy crap, revenants that have jetpacks and can fly?? I might as well drink bleach now because that will be less painful than getting hit by one of these guys. To make matters worse there are reports that they have a laser gun installed into one of their eye sockets...as if rockets weren't enough firepower.

4th screenshot from the bottom shows the 4 armed hellknight. The Revenant Horror, Mancuwar and Cacomancus don't have their full sprite sheet yet.

My tumblr shows the frontal view of the cacomancus and mancuwar so if you want to see those before I eventually show them here then I suggest you look there.

Looks good. I like your mapping (D2mZD, recently I've been playing Ruins of Humanity), namely your intuitive (moderately-complex) level design and using custom/altered monsters, and you seem to be better and better at making these. Good luck with your projects!

I believe that enemies should have distinct distinguishing features, to be possible to recognize variants from each other, so yes. You should do something about the 4-armed HK too. Even if you won't be using standard HK or revenant anymore, player should be at least able to recognize that there's a change. If the change isn't big enough, it might have been better if there was none at all.

This looks slightly unnatural to me, how the arms are mounted on the head. I'd say that the arms should grow from a lower part of Caco's head, and be shorter, in order to look more natural. On the other hand, this appearance on the picture makes him look like a badass tough guy ala Fatso, which is probably a good thing, and it wouldn't look like that if the arms were placed lower. So I don't know, maybe the latter (=keeping what you have) would actually work better.

If you played descent it will look similar to the end boss, though I didn't intend for it to turn out that way but it kind of did anyways.

Idk what the Cacomancus will shoot atm.

Looks cool, but yeah, personally I'd lower the arms. Really, I think it's just the high shoulders that look out of place.

Here's my crappy MS Paint attempt to slope the shoulders down a bit:

(I simply took some meat off the shoulders, then lowered the spikes down to match. The long top spike was actually a copy/paste error that I liked, so I copied it to the other side as well.)

That actually looks better, now to edit the sprites to have lower shoulders.
