T-Rex Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) I had a thought of what could have been if the original Plutonia used music from other games instead of Doom and Doom 2's. I had at first considered Rise of the Triad's as it is music associated with very difficult Doom megawads, notably Hell Revealed, but then I felt it might not since the gameplay action of HR is hectic, something the music suits better. While Plutonia does have its share of carnage that HR stems from, it's major focus is the effective usage of high-tier monsters. So, after some searching, I have concluded that the best alternate music suitable for Plutonia other than Doom and Doom 2 would have to be the music of Heretic and Hexen. But if I were to choose myself, it would possibly be Duke Nukem 3D's music, since the music does go quite well with the gameplay style as Doom and Doom 2 does. I listened to some of the Duke Nukem 3D tracks while checking out playthroughs of the Plutonia levels back-to-back, even playing the levels myself, and managed to think up the list of music tracks that would correspond to each level: Map01: Congo - Restricted Area by Lee Jackson Map02: Well of Souls - The City Streets by Bobby Prince Map03: Aztec - Ah, Geez! by Lee Jackson Map04: Caged - Taking Names by Bobby Prince Map05: Ghost Town - Whomp by Lee Jackson Map06: Baron's Lair - Alfred H. (My Family's Plot) by Lee Jackson Map07: Caughtyard - Lemon Chilllllllllllllllll by Lee Jackson Map08: Realm - Warehaus by Lee Jackson Map09: Abattoire - Baked Goods by Lee Jackson Map10: Onslaught - Gloomy by Lee Jackson Map11: Hunted - Briefing Room by Lee Jackson Map12: Speed - Departure by Lee Jackson Map13: The Crypt - Preparation D by Lee Jackson Map14: Genesis - Urban Jungle by Lee Jackson Map15: The Twilight - Plasma by Lee Jackson Map16: The Omen - The Call Of Death by Bobby Prince Map17: Compound - Stalker by Lee Jackson Map18: Neurosphere - Gloomy by Lee Jackson Map19: Nme - RoboCreeping by Lee Jackson Map20: The Death Domain - Lord Of L.A. by Bobby Prince Map21: Slayer - Invader by Bobby Prince Map22: Impossible Mission - Spook by Bobby Prince Map23: Tombstone - Aliens, Say Your Prayers! by Bobby Prince Map24: The Final Frontier - Sneaky Snake by Bobby Prince Map25: The Temple of Darkness - In Tents by Lee Jackson Map26: Bunker - Lord Of L.A. by Bobby Prince Map27: Anti-Christ - Lemon Chilllllllllllllllll by Lee Jackson Map28: The Sewers - Warehaus by Lee Jackson Map29: Odyssey of Noises - Stalker by Lee Jackson Map30: The Gateway of Hell - Layers of Dust by Lee Jackson Map31: Cyberden - Alfred H. (My Family's Plot) by Lee Jackson Map32: Go 2 It - Urban Jungle by Lee Jackson Intermission Text - Invader by Bobby Prince Title/Intermission Screen - Grabbag by Lee Jackson Well, that's all I'd like to share. I do prefer Plutonia as it is with the Doom and Doom 2's OST, in full honesty, but I thought I could come up with my own idea and get to know your opinions. Myself, I think Duke Nukem 3D's soundtrack is fitting, but I'm sure there are other worthy alternatives. See you all later. Edited October 18, 2017 by T-Rex 0 Share this post Link to post
Gez Posted September 6, 2014 Well, the same question has been asked before and resulting in original custom music made for Plutonia. 0 Share this post Link to post
T-Rex Posted September 6, 2014 I meant to say that if Plutonia used music from other game sources like either Heretic, Hexen, or Duke Nukem 3D. Pretty interesting how there's already a project which uses completely new and original music. 0 Share this post Link to post
ASD Posted September 9, 2014 I don't think Duke music would match Plutonia, but I agree at maps 05 and 09 tho. Whomp sounds like a lost city theme while Baked Goods is a gruesome slaughterhouse with haunted feel, just like the original map Shop-N-Bag. 0 Share this post Link to post

Taking Names cause the original music lineup uses Kitchen Ace (and Taking Names), Urban Jungle has that pretty intense feel which goes well with the showdown against the boss in Stadium, so it would be the same here, especially for the slaughtermap Go 2 It, and there's Stalker, it is very much Duke Nukem 3D's At Doom's Gate, both being the tracks for the very first level of their respected games. 0 Share this post Link to post

T-Rex Posted October 4, 2014 Seems like most here prefer either the alternate Plutonia music pack or the original set. I still consider Duke Nukem 3D's soundtrack to be fitting for Plutonia. Oh well, to each their own, I suppose. 0 Share this post Link to post
