Well about the sounds and the female imp, the female sounds are tricky and will require voice acting, so there are some ways it can be done:
1.Rip voices from games and edit them to fit FreeDoom.
2.Ask someone to do some voice recordings, upload them and then somebody takes the voice recordings and edits them to fit FD.
So we got 2 options, althrough there are more options, so if someone is interested, go ahead and summit your own.
And now the female imp, i know that violence against woman in video games is controversial, so you are right, we should be careful about that, because somebody might see that as offensive and then we've got problems.
And i think the that 1 revised design suits better FD.

Okay, I think this is good.

I didn't have any real concerns about the imp's female characteristics when you brought up the subject in private, but enough people seem to share these concerns that I now think this is probably the safer option.

In the end, they're supposed to be alien creatures anyway so I guess there's no real reason why they ought to have either male or female characteristics. The imp in its current form is pretty much androgynous.

This is completely aginst Freedoom's submission guidelines. Please do not ever do anything like this.

okay than, the imps sheet will be delayed as i work out how to incorporate some of the details, ill switch to prioritizing the shotgunguy for now

I like the ribbed/slitted armor look, it looks more alien.

I probably should've clarified that my issue with the anatomy was more along the lines of it being too juvenile or sexualized. You know, like those medieval fantasy things where the women are dressed in minimalist bikinis that are supposed to be "armor" just because it's made of metal and used in battle situations. So, not offensive as much as it is just immature and obnoxious. Yeah, Doom is Doom and isn't really top-class, but I feel that there should be at least some standard level of tastefulness.

This is a fighting and shooting game. Some gore will happen. I do agree about the hellishness. The blatant satanic stuff and occult symbols are not really necessary. They do not even fit any of the proposed storylines. Id's monsters are from hell so that stuff actually fits in those iwads.

I said an extent of tastefulness. Perhaps it's my surroundings of American culture seeping into me as much as I hate (at least elements of) said culture, but somehow I think that it's more tasteful to have loads of gore for the sake of gore than tits for the sake of tits.

With that design, I think it'd be cool to see the appendages covering its body to open up and its chest cavity being where its fireballs are shot from.

i was thinking of the same thing, but im not sure how to make the melee attack work in that case, seeing it would have to use the same frames

You are really going to hate the internet when you discover that 99% of it is comprised of porn.

I always found it weird how Americans consider it acceptable to end life, but the creation of life is viewed by them as somehow being sinful. I'm cool with that kind of thinking, though. That just means there are more girls available for me.

raymoohawk: you're getting into the Ripley alien kind of territory... I don't want to have nightmares after playing Freedoom. ;) I like it.

Maybe have an alien mouth come out of the chest and simultaneously spew fireballs and bite the hero?

not all americans find ending life acceptable, you cant judge a countries people for the bad desicions of some of its goverment, soda made it clear that this was not about prudishness, and iirc has critisized war mongers like bush in other treads. i honestly think the new imp design is better. anyway the alienesque thing was unintentional, but im glad youre liking it. ill find a way to work the melee attack in

You could put teeth up and down the right/left sides of the chest cavity if you wanted to make it dual purpose. The entire concept of getting bit and eaten is actually scarier than getting clawed anyway in my opinion

thanks! but i really dont think this is singlehandedly, freedoom is a coolective effort :-)
i was thinking of documenting the making of the sprites, would anyone be interested in that? maybe it could be used to promote freedoom or something

Sprite quality has always been a big issue and major complaint. This is seriously awesome work you are doing.

Sprite documentary would be awesome, not just for Freedoom but for all people interested in modding sprite based games.

I have to agree with that. Speaking entirely for myself, my art abilities are limited to drawing stick figures. That's mostly why I like to cheerlead for folks that are able to contribute in a much more meaningful way to projects that I love.
