paintingatree Posted September 21, 2014 Just a thought i had for a while, D-Touch seems to be the only Doom Source-Port/pack of Source-Ports on Android that's actually good, the thing is, it's behind a paywall, and it's interesting to see that most people are okay with this, i don't have anything against Beloko and his "porting business", but are the ports authors really okay with someone else selling their work?, or does a part of the selling go to the respective authors?, and it's kinda strange to see ECWolf and apparently EDuke32 get ported and released for free while PrBoom/ChocoDoom/GZDoom get sold both by the same guy?, i just want to know what's going on. 0 Share this post Link to post

In the case of ECWolf Beloko is/was using it to advertise the quality of his ports. I had no problem with him selling the port. I've even merged his port into the repository. Given the GPL he is well within his rights to sell the product. If you're a cheapskate then you could ask him for the source and compile it yourself. In the case of GZDoom he made sure to remove all code documented as non-commercial. What you're effectively purchasing is support. 0 Share this post Link to post

rampancy Posted September 21, 2014 I find touch to be so unwieldy in an fps. It is fine for it's intended purpose, but gaming without mechanical controls is just beyond me. Maybe it is a sign that I am getting old but I am only 32 so wtf lol. 0 Share this post Link to post

You could, but you probably wouldn't be able to match the release quality since anyone that would want to do that probably wouldn't know how to fix any user issues.rampancy said:I find touch to be so unwieldy in an fps. You realize these devices have, for a long time, supported keyboard, mouse, and joystick input right? Beloko's touch controls are pretty decent given the limitations though. Edit: And many of them have video output capabilities. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted September 22, 2014 So long as all the license requirements are met, sure. What hacks me off is when people try to get around them or just ignore them completely, like some guy selling Choco Strife on Amazon without the source code or any docs giving me credit for my work on it. 0 Share this post Link to post
