Barack Obama Mocking Christianity

Recommended Posts

Well when you consider how he chose to arm Muslims in Syria who now call themselves isil and murder Christians in Syria and Iraq, maybe there is something to it.

Outside of the western world, very. Within the middle east, northern Africa, Muslim dominated Oceania and communist China, they don't really catch much of a break.

Were you guys not paying attention during 2008 when we elected this guy? Seriously, this bullshit was talked about for the entire election cycle. Are you also about to find out that this guy lived in Africa and Indonesia for a while?

Right bc there wasn't a huge push to register everyone and New York didn't pass crazy new laws and another (mass?) didn't make felons out of thousands of gun owners who refused to register. Also they haven't been creating a paramilitary dhs and buying over a billion rounds of ammo. And semi automatic didn't suddenly become too dangerous to own. And there was no effort whatsoever made to sign a un treaty designed around disarming everyone

The only thing that's deep around here is your head bc it's deep in your ass.

Outside the US, Christians are fairly oppressed. In the US, Christian's biggest enemy is anyone who wears a fedora and thinks that a neckbeard = sexual tyrannosaurus rex.

Could anyone give me back a play-by-play on how exactly he was mocking religion? Because this humble atheist truly and honestly could not see it. He pointed out how there are many religions, and how making law based on religion cannot work in a society in which all religious beliefs are expected to be respected. He pointed out how the teachings of Jesus run counter to right-wing hawk ideology. He pointed out how, even within one religion, there are many different interpretations of the religious teachings.

In short, he was supporting the notion that most people in this country believe, that religion cannot dictate the law. I don't see what's so friggin' shocking about the 1st Amendment.

Well when you consider the laws that are upheld by Christian tradition, thou shalt not lie, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, it's no wonder Obama thinks there is room for interpretation. The freedom of speech is primarily of value as it gives us the right to speak the truth. The guy is a known liar and wants the right to lie, while denying access to the truth. That is where the scandal comes in.

In conclusion, not for lack of trying. You guys are too smart to be so dense.

I really like your music btw.

So, Rampancy, are you one of those guys that believes that secularism is wrong and that the "better" religion should be able to dictate policy? Of course there's room for interpretation when it involves a pluralistic society.

I only watched the first video but what Barack says in it is sane and inoffensive. Anyone offended by it probably wants to impose their brand of Christianity on the entire world. Some of those kinds of people even mess with other countries when they can't get their way here.

Yes, unfortunately for you, we're too smart to be dense enough to be drawn into your "blah blah blah Obama sucks" rhetoric." Mind you, I'm not defending Obama here, I'm not making a statement about whether he's a good or bad president, my position is only that you came in here going off on wild tangents about how you hate Obama and how much he sucks, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the content of this thread. Of course, I'm sure just saying that will provoke you into another tangent, and I apologize to everyone else for that in advance. The real issue here is only that Obama was speaking about the importance of the 1st Amendment, and radicals saw that as an attack on Christianity, for reasons I can't fathom other than that they're insulted at the notion of religious tolerance.

And I do apologize, I don't like to be adversarial, certainly not here on Doomworld, but it astounds me how you feel the need to come in with this open hostility at anyone who might disagree with you in the slightest. I don't see the need to go looking for a fight, just 'cause someone mentioned a politician you don't like.

It's scary that anyone here could be so stupid and blinkered as to watch the linked video and think Obama is "mocking' Christianity. To be a Christian is simply to be guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ, not to blindly adhere to religious dogma or scripture and shun anyone who doesn't. If your faith is so weak that you can't stand to see a fellow Christian point out Biblical anachronisms, or champion the notion of separation of church and state, then you have more in common with the fundamentalists of ISIL than actual Christian values.

Because that's really what this is about - fundamentalism. Obama is a pragmatic, centre-right politician, but if you view the world through a fundamentalist, black-and-white system, then you can't accept that. You have to believe he is a radical, crypto-Muslim, socialist bogeyman because there's no room in your world for moderate policies or non-extremism. What's more, you need to portray his centrist policies as crazy and extreme in order to try and make your own actually extreme positions look sane.

So Obama champions religious freedom and pluralism, advocates separation of church and state, and points out that religious beliefs need to be translated into rational, universal values before they're applied to government. Basically he's saying theocracy, as practiced by states like Iran, is bad. But if you're a right-wing, religious fundamentalist, who actually *wants* theocracy, then you portray this as evil, heretical mockery of Christianity.

A religion -- indeed, any sort of ideology -- that cannot bear to be mocked a bit is an ideology that should entirely disappear from the face of the Earth.

Most American "Christians" actually worship the almighty dollar, which they send to the likes of false prophets like Pat Robertson as sacrifice. You can tell this when the same ones who are trying to force kids to pray in schools or ban teaching of evolution are the ones bitching about their tax dollars paying for a poor child's meal, getting somebody a desperately needed operation, or getting a homeless guy off the streets, instead of being used to execute more people, subsidize more multi-billion dollar corporations, buy cops more war weapons, coordinate the negotiation and approval of NWO-style international treaties making us into cattle, or blow up more Muslims in some country that they couldn't even find on a map, all of which they have NO issue with.

Jesus said "And he will answer, 'I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me." What American Christian follows this these days?

That just goes to show how much the line between religion and politics has blurred if not erased completely. Much like the school system, many big time churches are corrupt and pushing political agendas.

As for Obama himself. It does not matter what he says or does. Because, Obama is and always has been a puppet, dancing on the same strings Bush and the rest did.

Obviously you haven't tried to buy ammo lately. You really think anyone is dumb enough to go after guns? Those people are much much smarter than that....

Yeah, an ammo shortage caused by far-right whackjobs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008%E2%80%9313_United_States_ammunition_shortage

After the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012, and the perceived likelihood of new firearm control laws being passed by Congress and state governments in response to the shooting, ammunition and firearms were purchased by consumers in large numbers in a pattern often termed "panic buying".

Other religions have those same not lie, steal, or kill. Christianity doesnt hold the monopoly on decency and morality. Let's picture the usa with a nutjob like pat robertson as president.

Christianity deserves to be mocked and treated with derision. If that obama clip is mockery, it's really tame, almost to the point of reverence...which he has done in the past many times.

12ga slugs were pretty expensive last year but the price has dropped pretty dramatically since then. I bought 2 boxes of 7 last year and iirc the total cost was almost $50, now they're 1/3 the price. Steel shot and bird shot have remained pretty cheap as well, like $10 or so for 25.

Most places that sell ammo around here have had really low sale limits per customer per day for a few years. That clearly exasperates peoples fears causing them to buy ammo more often than they might otherwise would. Thus it's less of a shortage of product and more of a marketing tactic by retailers and ammo manufacturers.

It's rhetoric because it has nothing to do with the flippin' topic at hand. The truth of it is completely irrelevant to this discussion. You wanna have an "Obama sucks" thread and throw a big-ol' anti-Obama party, fine by me, but what's the sense in hijacking other threads to voice your disdain for him? And yes, technically this is a thread about him, but saying, "Obama sucks," has nothing to do with the content of the video. It's like this weird backwards world where the value of the words being spoken are judged according to the man speaking them, rather than the other way around.
