Air strikes in Syria

Recommended Posts

Just remember about a year ago they wanted to go into Syria but couldn't due to Russia and Iran blocking and more importantly congress wasn't going for it and the armed forces went on record as not wanting to be "alqaeda's airforce." So now we are bombing them, to get the guys we armed to fight assad. It doesn't matter who we are bombing as long as we bomb syria. If we have to do something that's fine, but all the lying is a constant letdown.

Watch for new ukraine problems any minute now.

You should remember that George W. Bush's cabinet wanted to bomb the fuck out of Syria back in 2004 but he was dealing with the 2001 recession, ground war in Iraq, and Afghan counter-terrorism.

You should also know that the "Syrian rebels" are not just one group. There are dozens of these groups. ISIL is the most vicious because they don't take a lot of prisoners and they also stole a shit ton of the Iraqi army's equipment when they invaded 6+ months ago. The US has supplied humanitarian aid to some or most of the Syrian civilian population at one time or another because the Syrian Civil War has been going on for 3+ years and Assad refuses to step down from his family's dynasty. US has never officially given weapons to anybody in that country except within the past few months, and those weapons were mainly given to Sunni moderates who comprise the Free Syrian Army who were fighting both Assad and ISIL.

Yes I know this is straight out of pnac. Also they want a gas pipe running through Syria. if bush held off for any reason it was the best decision of his presidency. Also, if Isis is the strongest of the groups, guess what, they run the groups. The fsa is on record admitting as much.

All I did was google "fsa admits works with Isis"

I think if this is what we need to do they should've just come out and said so. I don't like being lied to. Being sneaky and lying seems shameful.

Also you say that we have never officially given guns.... Ok so what? Unofficially, we gave guns. It isn't a secret that they were running guns to Syria and wherever else though Libya. Remember the ambassador Stevens? Running guns.

Yeah bc you are going to find Rachel Maddow publicly criticizing the anointed one. I just listed the top few. I don't have time to catalogue the net for you that is what Google is for to begin with. I get the impression you were in too big a hurry to be witty to actually invest some time.

Uh, seriously. You need to check your sources, that's gutter trash full of hysterical conspiracy theories. You are partly right, the "friendly" FSA rebels fought ISIL bitterly until a few days ago and now they negotiated a cease fire and limited cooperation to go back to the original goal - fighting Assad. None of that means they're secretly best buds.

And the bombing was concentrated on Rakka, that's like the black heart of the IS, hardly "Syria" as we knew it. I'd be very disappointed if Obama used this campaign as a platform to topple Assad after ISIL is done, but right now the only "Western" forces bombing Assad's forces on occassion are the same old - Turkey and Israel in border skirmishes.

No need to catalogue them, just selecting some with a less obvious level of editorial bias and/or general asshattery will be fine with me. As for the video, do you realize that particular "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights" (there seem to be a few groups coveting that name) is a shill for the Assad regime? I was somewhat bemused by their "Israeli terrorists aka ISIS in Iraq" video, are they attempting to portray ISIS as a Zionist movement? Sorry about the lack of wit, but there are times I'm simply not in the mood to cast pearls before swine.

If I were a rebel I'd be joining Assad's army just to rid the country of the wackos trying to turn the area into an insane theocracy that would make the Taliban blush. Assad's brand of secular autocracy must sound pretty good after the recent escalation of ethnic religious genocide.

I don't know what is hard to get about this series of events:

They want to put a north south pipeline through Syria.

Obama wants to bomb Assad for using chemical weapons.

We arm rebels.

Obama wants Iraqi pm to resign.

Rebels cross into Iraq and damn near take over.

Rebels behead 3 people.

Now we have to bomb rebels in Syria.

How do people not see this?

Lol how do you think I feel?

Isis is just a scape goat created to provide a pretext first off. Secondly I am not an anti Semite or a Zionist although I do believe in Israel's right to exist as a Jewish country if they so choose. I just think we deserve to be told the truth about important matters. I resent the fact that kids are taught false pretenses as historical fact.

The Anatolian pipeline that is currently being constructed between Turkey and Turkmenistan pretty much renders the "Friendship" pipeline irrelevant, so I don't see what America's, Qatar's and Turkey's vested interest in removing Assad and making the land a dismal Islamic shithole. Of course, the pipeline was an Iranian, Iraqi and Syrian proposal, so it would be in America's and Qatar's best interest to block it. But then again, Qatar and Turkey wanted to build a pipeline through Jordan and Syria, and Syria is in alliance with Iraq and Iran... but the IS would never allow it in Assad falls...

Ah fuck it! I don't know who's Jewing who anymore. All I know is Turkey looks more and more devious.

Any one remember that list of countries the US would go to war with in the next five years? It was leaked during the Bush admin. If you don't here is an interview with General Wesley Clark. Retired 4-star U.S. Army general, that will refresh your memory.

While the plan is past due, it's pretty clear the US gov is still working towards their goal.

Turkey is using its NATO membership as a trump card to run roughshod over the region. If they leave NATO the west will be very let down and so they get away with a lot of crap as I see it. Erdogan has dreams of recreating the Ottoman Empire.

Yes it was in a document called pnac, project for a new American century. Which sounds good to me, as long as it doesn't involve continuing to destroy the American midde class and getting brought into it with a bunch of lies. I don't really care if someone disagrees with me, if we need to do something to stay on top then the facts need to be presented and then we should do it. When lies are used as justification, it calls the whole thing into question.

You are a raving lunatic and you are mixing half-truths with idiotic conspiracies. That big theory you are weaving includes many contradictory and irrational claims that would require the all-powerful Illuminati to be a goddamn herd of retards.

In other words you are ok with destabilizing other countries and costing thousands if not millions of innocent people their life's? If that's the case, you should pack your bags and head to North Korea. Because you would fit right in.

Lol so I am a maniac for seeing the obvious and a North Korean for being a realist who prefers the truth. You guys are funny.

All these interventions in the Middle East just make me think the same thing I thought of 9/11: "No Muslim, militant Islamist or otherwise, ever did anything to me directly". I perceive the State, the Police and local criminals to be a much more direct threat to me than a bunch of guys in a far away land, which might be cruel and crude, but at least they only have power in their own land, and cannot project it anywhere else. Similarly, I feel much more threatened by the US than I am by NK.

...probably not the right kind of attitude during a state of war/emergency, where no positive or even merely neutral comments about the enemy are tolerated, right? Because that's what this fearmongering and terrorphilia aims at: making people live under a constant, unstable state of "heightened alert", "extaordinary measures" etc. which are practically Martial Law in anything but the name.

I agree with that. I've never seen a terrorist. We are far more likely to be killed by a car or a bee sting, statistically.

Unfortunately, the way they keep stirring the pot I guess I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a real terror attack at some point.

Maybe if we can get the proper leadership we can have a war on cars. Just think how much cleaner the air would be lol.
