Jaxxoon R Posted October 20, 2014 Radical news, guys. Pretty damn radical, guys, pretty damn radical. Scroll down a bit and, bam, it's there. Crazy, right? I wasn't even actively looking for this. Now we can all be the SNESd. 0 Share this post Link to post
Shadow Hog Posted October 20, 2014 Not thoroughly impressed. Maybe it's just SynthFont being dumb, but running D_E1M1 through the soundfont doesn't sound much like the SNES game, even when accounting for obvious differences in reverb and such. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted October 20, 2014 If that preview is anything to go by, this sounds awesome. It's like the drummer got over his drinking problem. 0 Share this post Link to post

Well yeah, that's because it's not made for use with MIDI playback, as most SNES game sample soundfonts are. They're made to be sample packs that people can choose instruments from in a DAW of their choice. I still don't understand the appeal of SNES Doom's music by the way, the instruments sound terrible and muffled compared to other games with rock-oriented soundtracks like the Megaman X series. 0 Share this post Link to post
MajorRawne Posted October 20, 2014 It doesn't sound too bad, it's very... SNES-y. The only version of the original music I liked was the 3DO version. That completely kicked arse. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fuzzball Posted October 20, 2014 :D Time to make some shit renditions! 0 Share this post Link to post
ShaneAmp Posted October 23, 2014 I have had this for some time, I talked to the creator about implementing it into a new release of my SNES doom mod. It doesn't match perfectly when used in game, because there were less instruments. Maybe he has updates it? He broke contact and never followed up! 0 Share this post Link to post
Shane Posted October 24, 2014 This was a find? SNES sound fonts have been pretty accessible for a while. 0 Share this post Link to post
Armaetus Posted October 24, 2014 I am going to have some fun with this. 0 Share this post Link to post

Armaetus Posted October 25, 2014 I did this out of boredom to see how the soundfont fares. It came out decent to good. Rock and metal songs work pretty nicely with it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jaxxoon R Posted October 25, 2014 It's a shame it's not optimized for general use, though. 0 Share this post Link to post

Entirely possible though to combine some other soundfont instruments from other games into a proper GM set. 0 Share this post Link to post
Holering Posted October 25, 2014 Cool! I can try this on my Live! emu10k1 (lol) in Linux. 0 Share this post Link to post
