Dragonfly Posted December 30, 2017 (edited) Been working on a lava castle type map. Feels a bit Bowser's Castle to me, but I'm having a lot of fun with this theme so far! To get the fire to damage the player as I wanted (since they are on a 3D floor above the fire itself) I had to create a non-solid rapidly-moving 3D floor which damages the player to position itself when the fire is active, and then remove itself (go 1024 units above the map) when the fire is not active. Ah, you're not safe on the metal blocks between the grids. That means there's only one way you can cross without getting hurt (from right to left on that picture). Another possible approach (not that you need to change yours) would be to make the flame actors responsible for dealing damage. Simply having them call A_Explode repeatedly would do the trick. 1 Share this post Link to post

Jayextee Posted December 30, 2017 (edited) Just a few quick screens of some history right here. These are Heretic maps I made in 2001. I thought I'd never see them again (hence, one section of the first is remade verbatim in a later map of the recent Doom episode I made) but on a long-shot asked @Jon if he still had them knocking around, since I vaguely remember sending them via IRC (or a link to my old GeoCities page, whatever) and him enjoying them. Lo and behold, the man's a saint (albeit one with apparently MANY old HDD backups) -- and I was able to play my old maps. How do they hold up? Alright. Some of my old mapping mistakes abound here (cramped areas, too much symmetry) but otherwise I think they're pretty good. And well-balanced, considering Heretic's inventory system. I'm getting OoT Fire Temple vibes personally, except darker and with less stone. It's missing the numerous and iconic stone-shaped structures of Bowser's face put all over the place anyway. This may be the first time I have ever seen anybody use fire effects like this in Doom (the timed fire walkway is just awesome). Empyre Posted December 31, 2017 Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune all have rings, but none of them are nearly as spectacular as Saturn's. That said, those do look like Saturn's rings, not Jupiter's. 1 Share this post Link to post
