Yeah, it's a railgun. At the moment it consumes 20 cells and does 200..700 damage, with the same sort of timing delay as the BFG which it replaces. If you line up a bunch of Hell Knights it does gib'tastic things to them. With Quad Damage it two shots Cyberdemons.

Some sort of issue with the Plasma Rifle i'm having in GZDoom 4.2.3 Looks kinda neat though but it is annoying. Only happens in software mode. I'll report it soon.

A first glance I thought it was shooting random ammo types. A weapon that does that could probably be good for a joke mod.

In case somebody is interested, I'm playing with ZDoom, pk_anim2.wad (smoother weapon animations + elegant black gloves) and a slightly edited version of Random Deaths & Decoration.

 

Over the top gameplay changing gore mods (Brutal Doom etc.) are not my thing but I love this one and I have been using the slightly altered version for years now. The only thing I disliked about it were the rolling animations so I removed those. Not sure if it's ok to share it here.

Yes, i like that detail and thought it could be good sign that you are closer to hell. The deeper in megawad and closer to hell maps  you are the more cracks in maps you will see.
