Trying to make something that feels classic like MM1/MM2/Requiem/Strain thing for DMP2017. I find it very hard to restrain myself from being very strict about alignment and matching flat/textures but I want to capture the classic feel as much as I can and try to keep things rough on purpose.

You have done such a good job at emulating the classics that you have accidentally recreated the start of OCTAGON.WAD almost exactly :)



This is as it appears in WADPAK1a (where it replaces an E3M6 map and has a red sky; the standalone has the E1 sky)

I've been trying to fix the tutti-frutti bug by myself and so I set the maximum texture column size from 128 to 8 in R_DrawColumn to ses what it would do. The result was pretty laughable.











Yep, that's a Cacodemon.





EDIT: Even worse:

Draw the walls on the left of the screen and draw the visplanes on the right.

Oh no! It's even got red sky too. Maybe I'll change it up a bit so it won't be too much the same out of respect to the original author.

Thanks for the link RjY, I would love to play classics to get more ideas.

I have always found it almost whimsical that this simple 2D layout, in such a basic form, is one of the most revered and imitated levels in gaming history!
