reminds me to work on my NOVA III map, too bad I'm super unhappy with the layout now so I've been working on a new map entirely. Might just use that for my submission.

That's a great effect! I wonder if it might look better with a brighter liquid flat, though, since it's casting light on the rest of the scene.

Big ol Billysz screenshot made me realize the importants of a sky box that accentuizes the foreground. Dark colours above and light ones at the bottom.

When I finish the mancubus, I will put them out in a pk3 with thing DECORATE and destroyed versions. Maybe a day or two at most. I'll pm you when I finish.

@Big Ol Billy great shots but I fear that sky works a bit too well (considering it's not the actual NOVA 3 sky) - the dark patches really hammer in an ominous feel, particularly on the 3rd and 7th shots.

It's for sure a significant improvement over the current E2 sky. I might end up using that, actually. Map looks great, by the way, I'm not entirely sold on some of the texturing, but I generally like what I'm seeing.

found some time ago the textures from catacombs 3d games, started to edit them in doom 2 wolf3d texture fashion and made a little demo wad for testing out them how they looks out:

Everything should have the same pixel resolution. So if you're upscaling everything else by x2 or x4 or whatever, keep with that.

I remember the first time I played Quake with a source port and it happened to have water caustics, I thought it was the greatest thing ever as it oozed atmosphere.

In general, caustics are bright spots on surfaces that result when light goes through a substance that refracts it (e.g.: glass, water). Wikipedia has a decent illustration of it here.

 

Water caustics, then, is obviously caustics specifically caused by water. It's sort of a ripply effect, constantly moving as the water surface itself ripples, and can be visible on surfaces both underwater and, in some circumstances, above it.
