[DM Project] - Z-Match 2015: The Final Fight

I want to make a DM wad (preferably somewhere between 10 - 15 maps) that has a tech-base/old school POBLA theme to it. (POBLA means "Point Blank" in case any of you were wondering)

Requirements/rules of each map:
1) The map must be fun to play; well balanced; and engaging over the long term.
2) Port specific features used need to add to the Deathmatch experience in a significant gameplay related manner.
3) Port specific features used need to be 100% cross compatible between these three source ports: Zandronum, Odamex, & ZDaemon
4) Gameplay over graphics (unless it is ugly enough that I am forced to make a call on it).
5) Maps must be big enough for 4-8 DM players.

We are pretty much going for a POBLA theme. Also, keep in mind that maps are not required to be symmetrical. Keep the maps old school (New school looking maps will not be accepted).

CHANGES IN REQUIREMENTS:

- Slopes will no longer be accepted.
- No more symmetrical maps.

This sounds great to me. I have a map in the works I'd be happy to submit :) Glad to see you took the smart route with compatibility, it's always best when a wad runs in the big 3. I might even add a deep water or slope section to my map, if it enhances the gameplay that is.

Looks a lot like a symmetrical box, not a fun kind of layout. Reminds me of dwango5, the map with the rocket launchers and gray textures everywhere.

It's good to have you on board DK and I'm eager to see your newest submission! If you are going to use a deep water effect, it might be wise to make a script that allows the player to walk/run without slowing them down in the water.

It's subject to editing. I have play tested it in the past with people online and it is fairly well balanced. Its symmetrical/circular layout is supposed to resemble greenwar's MAP20. I'm not looking for all the maps to be symmetrical. Matter of fact, I'm looking for more creative layouts.

That is actually a pretty good map Captain Toenail. I tested it out with bots and it plays fairly well. I'm sure it will play well with human players. The items are well balanced and the route to the plasma rifle is pretty good. Thanks for the submission!

This one ended up more cramped than I planned. I might stretch it out a bit if you find it too small.


That's a nice looking map that would probably play well with 1-on-1 duels. To make it more suitable for 4-8 player DM, I think the layout of the map should be expanded a little more. Maybe add more routes/ teleports to more powerful weapons or power ups too. That's just a thought. Overall, pretty good submissions so far.

I want the midi on map02 to stay as it is, but feel free to change the one for map01, it was just a placeholder.

Cool maps DoomKid. I'm just wondering if your map02 is maybe a bit too open and exposed? The platforms do hide half the level, but only when they are raised.

The Miano, your beta is causing ZDaemon to crash and close suddenly, but it works fine with Zandronum. At least at my end?

I thought about having a few platforms remain raised at all times, but it ended up looking ugly and making bfg spam even worse, if you can believe it. I'm definitely open to any suggestions though, I agree it;s a bit exposed!

I can take a look at the wad and get it to run in all ports, I'll post again once Ive fixed it.

Hey miano, can I join the roster? I often have trouble with Single-player maps but I love making Deathmatch ones! Plus I'd be honoured to have a level in a WAD piloted by you!

Sounds good. Just make sure that the map is suitable for 4-8 DM players and so it doesn't become a clusterfuck.

This is shaping up well. 6 good maps so far... Can we make it to 10??

Cpt T, I only have one very minor gripe, and that's the megaspheres and invisiblity spheres. I've loaded my DM maps with them in the past and regretted it every time, it makes the rounds a bit too unbalanced. Soulspheres and green armors are a good thing to put in their place.

Don't take me wrong though - Your maps are fantastic (man, that is some clean texturing)
