This isn't a bad idea. There've been alpha resource packs in the past, but we may as well get a full archive of it all, I say. I guess the big question though would be whether or not to make TEXTUREx definitions for such a project; there are a few raw patches (DONTUSE, for example) that aren't going to be usable out-of-the-box without modification, so it'd take some effort there.
